You would think that being apart of Synyster Gates' life would be all fun and games. Sometimes it is. and sometimes it isn't
Being in the studio with the guys is boring at times, but they're odd balls when they get the chance. Every time Shadows tried to finish one lyric, Syn kept cutting him off. My cheeks were hurting after the tenth time.
But, sitting with Syn and Zacky V has always been a ball. I still write on my laptop, but with Syn overshadowing me and always making sure that i write nice things instead of depressing and gruesome tales. I love that man.
Today was the day that my band and I were gonna take over the studio for a while and work on our album while the guys were away. I finally finished my new song "The Only Exception." My bassist Kelly wanted me to record it.
I agreed, grabbed my guitar and went into the sound booth. It still smelled of Shadows cologene as he was in here for too long.
"So what's the story behind your song, Sam?" asked Kelly as she watched me setup in the booth.
"It's a love ballad. Like, your telling the one you love that they're the only thing in your life that you don't want to lose." I said as i sat on the stool and setup my guitar.
"Like you and Syn?" she asked
"Yeah. Exactly." I said as i pulled on the headphones. I gave the thumbs up and started strumming.
As I played the notes, i closed my eyes and thought about all the things that happened with Synyster and I. Always being there for each other and always showing our love. I could feel my heart race as i strummed and sang my heart out.
Kelly heard the studio door open and watched the guys walk in. She told them to be quiet as i was still recording.
"What's going on?" asked Shadows.
"Samantha's recording her song." said Kelly.
"Really? What song?" asked Syn.
"The Only Exception. Its on her laptop if you wanna see it." she whispered as she showed them the laptop screen. "Hey Sam, start again." she said. I nodded and started strumming again.
As i strummed the strings and sang the first line, Synyster looked up from my laptop and heard me sing. It was like he never heard me sing before. It was magical for him. I sang the final note and slowly ended my strum.
I opened my eyes and found all the guys watching me. My cheeks turned bright red as i left the booth. Syn wrapped his arms around me as i came out.
"I'm guessing you guys liked the song." i said as Synyster stood behind me and put his hands around my waist.
"Sam, we didn't know that you could sing like that." said Zacky V.
"Yeah. Sam, it was really beautiful." said Shadows.
"Awwwww. Thanks you guys." i said as I put my guitar down and held Synyster's hands.
I've never been complimented before on one of my songs and Avenged Sevenfold actually liked it. So, we mostly decided that from time to time, my band and I were gonna record some of my songs while the guys are out. I must have been dreaming. This has to be a dream. But it wasn't. It was all reality.
Today, Shadows said that they were going to work on "A Little Piece of Heaven" again. When will they ever get it right?
Shadows and Johnny Christ said that they needed someone to do the screaming and the laughing of the girl who gets killed. Syn insisted that i do it. Course i could never say no to him.
As I'm standing in the booth, Syn was watching me from the soundbooth with his guitar. Like that wasn't making me nervous enough. But, I did the scream perfectly and the laughs perfectly as well. They just need the singing down. I couldn't pass up the singing. So, Shadows joined me in the booth and started the track.
I closed my eyes and let my voice flow with the music. It was the best that ever went. Shadows and the Rev thought that it was the best they ever heard. I guess I was meant to help.
We left the booth as Kelly walked over to me.
"Hey, can i talk to outside?" she asked.
"Sure. Hey guys, I'll be right back." i said as she grabbed me by the wrist and yanked me outside.
The light of the sun blinded me as we stood outside. I faced Kelly as I tried getting my vision back.
"Was the yanking really necessary?" I asked.
"Yes it was. Sam, what were you doing in the sound booth with Shadows?" she asked.
"They needed my help with the track, so i offered. Why?"
"Oh nothing, it's just that you don't offer your help to another band. Especially if your dating one of its members." she yelled. Steam was coming out of her ears as she said it.
"What is so bad about that? They just needed screaming, laughing and alittle singing." i said.
"Yes, but you don't understand. If we lose battle of the bands because you decided to help them, then we're screwed."
"How can we be screwed? Everything's fine, Kelly. Trust me." i said as my vision finally came back.
"Because they'll know that you were helping them."
"Yeah. With a song. Jeez, you need to calm down there, Kelly." I said as I walked past her and headed for the door.
"But, what if they play the song?" asked Kelly. Okay, now her paranoia is starting to tick me off.
"It's just a track. Besides, Shadows said that we don't need to worry about battle of the bands because they're gonna play a different song." i said as i opened the door with Kelly not far behind.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Positive. Now come on, the sun is starting to turn me into a lobster dinner." i laughed as we went into the cool dark of the studio.
I walked past Johnny and Zacky V and sat on the couch next to Synyster. As I sat bck with my laptop, he draped his arm over me and watched me type out my next song.
Maybe I was meant to be in the studio with my band. Maybe I was meant to have Avenged Sevenfold as my family and Synyster Gates as my true love.
If i could change anything about this day, I wouldn't. Syn kept peeping over my laptop screen as he walked by me every time. I'd smile and playfully close it so he can focus on his guitar. I always thought that he wouldn't like me with my glasses on, but he can be a pushover at times.
After a few days, all of my songs have been coming together on our first album. I was excited that my band and I were releasing our first ever album.
Now, everyone can hear what I can do and how I feel in the songs. It's a miracle that we finished on time. Synyster was so happy that we finished my album that he almost cried when he heard my song. I wanted to hug him.
Without his support, my song wouldn't be possible. Writing stories and writing lyrics while being with my family is always the best for me because i'm living everyday. I'm living with music in my life and i'm very proud of it.
