Flagging posts that do not make good questions, answers or comments for closure or deletion is the way Stack Exchange maintains quality control throughout its networks. And while Stack Exchanges Networks are the prime reason a lot of people are happy campers, the quality control mission could be altered slightly. When people see a wrong post they automatically flag and that is right. You flag to show others that a post needs attention and eventually other users vote about what to the post and some even improve it. That is a good system, the problem I do have is that there is not a enough communication.
The flags that are sometimes confusing and cold in there approach of New Users and this can make them back off and leave or continue the cycle of not explaining to other users when they do learn. And while what I am saying may seem overly sensitive to some, I think that users should try for some additional explanation and coaching of the user because the understanding of the flag may not always be apparent. Because while you may come off as cold, you may actually care and portraying that you care can make communication even better. So what am I proposing: Just a little explanation and pointing and this is the case sometimes, but some people did not do the same for me. So all you have to do is a little welcome, directing and coaching along with the flagging and everything will be better for the user's experience. And I assure you when I got that welcome(eventually) it made all the difference.
In conclusion, the amount of people that are lost may not be a appreciable amount(because Stack Exchange is thriving), but I assure you being nice last a life long. And explaining can't hurt, right? I mean even if I am wrong a lot of users get mad because nobody explains, and while that is shame on them. Maybe we can avoid conflict?
