Start your Sansa Stark support groups now. Sophie Turner revealed in a brand-new interview that she could totally see her character ‘becoming a Cersei’ in her attempts to protect her family. Is Sansa going to go down a dark path in season 7?
Sophie Turner, 21, knows that Sansa Stark and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) have some similarities. She compared the two characters in a new interview with
, calling them “both so family-obsessed and family-oriented.” With her father, mother, and two of her brothers now dead, Sansa is protecting her family more than ever, and she may end up more like a woman she hates. “I can totally see her becoming a Cersei and kind of driven mad by it, by the threats against her family,” Sophie said in the interview. “If that means becoming like a ruthless killer, leader, sadistic woman or evil lady, then so be it. I don’t think it matters to her, and I can see Sansa swinging that way too.”
Sophie actually sympathizes with Cersei, saying that current Queen of the Seven Kingdoms does all those terrible things “because she’s terrified of losing the people she loves.” As we’ve seen over the course of 7 seasons, Cersei is willing to do
protect her family, and her attempts haven’t ended well. All three of her children — Joffrey (Jack Gleeson), Tommen (Dean-Charles Chapman), and Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free) — are dead. Many believe this is all due to Maggie’s prophecy, which ends in Cersei’s death, but Cersei losing the people she loves could just be karma for her actions.
Sansa hasn’t done anything nearly as bad as Cersei (yet), but she has shown she’s capable of doing pretty much anything to protect herself and her loved ones. Remember the iconic moment when she unleashed Ramsay’s (Iwan Rheon) dogs and let them eat him alive? She could have let him rot in a cell, but she wanted revenge. She was
strategic in King’s Landing and managed to survive, despite the fact that she was constantly surrounded by enemies who could have easily had her killed.
Season 7 is going to be an interesting one for all the characters, especially Sansa. Will her thirst for revenge get her into trouble? Or will she play the game as masterfully as she has the past 7 seasons?
