Peaceandlove67 Question

What do you usually do during the holiday season?

The holiday season begins in late autumn (fall) and lasts through part of the winter. Usually, I celebrate Thanksgiving with my family. We have a nice dinner and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. They day after Thanksgiving, my aunt and uncle and I decorate for Christmas. I know some people do this after Halloween, but I think any time before Thanksgiving is too early. To each is own, though. On Christmas Day, I celebrate with my family and have Christmas Dinner and exchange gifts. The day after Christmas, we put away our Christmas decorations. Some people wait longer than that. Again, to each is own. We then prepare for New Year's and stay up until midnight on New Year's Eve to ring in the new year.

Well, the holiday season here in the Philippines usually starts as early as September and ends on the first or second week of January. Since my birthday comes first before Christmas, my family and I celebrate it by visiting another country. We have been doing this since 2010. Then, on Christmas Day, we would take photos around the Christmas Tree, open our presents, and go out for dinner. Finally, on New Year's Eve, we stay up late, keep track of the countdown on TV, and watch the fireworks. We then finish the celebration by having a New Year's Dinner.

That sounds neat. I know those of you who aren't from North America might not celebrate Thanksgiving.

That's true.

My family and I celebrate Thanksgiving with my paternal grandmother. We have Thanksgiving dinner. The next day, we usually had Thanksgiving leftovers, but we haven't done that since I was in middle school. The day after Thanksgiving, we decorate for Christmas. On Christmas Day, we celebrate with my paternal grandmother, and for years, we did a celebration the day after Christmas with my maternal grandmother. On New Year's Eve, we watch the ball drop to ring in the New Year. On New Year's Day, our Christmas decorations are taken down.

Yes. When you celebrate with your maternal grandmother, you have the fun of the "Circle of Sharing", right?

I always go to my grandmother's for Thanksgiving. My family and I enjoy food and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the National Dog Show. We set up and decorate our Christmas tree on December 5, which is the day my mother was born, and we take it down on New Year's Eve, the day she tragically died, along with my father. I then watch the New Year's Eve special with my family to ring in the New Year.

This was touching. Of course, that Bulldog that won Best in Show was gorgeous.

I used to go to my grandmother's, but since she passed away, my family gathers at my house for Thanksgiving. This year, I made a spinach and artichoke dip with blue corn chips as an appetizer. It turned out delicious. On November 30, we put our Christmas tree in our living room. It already has lights on it, so that's one less thing we deal with. It comes down on December 30. For Christmas, my mother makes a stuffed turkey, and we have a small family dinner, just the three of us, (me, my mother, and my father). We then open presents. On New Year's Eve, I get with my friends and have a New Year's party to ring in the new year.
