Once Upon A Time Question

Why does everyone hate Greg?

I mean yes he kidnapped Regina and was about to kill everyone in storybrooke. And ok yeah that's a very good reason to hate him but at the same time, no one seems to consider the fact that he was once poor little Owen who lost his father because of Regina. I love Regina and I hated seeing him torture her in "Second Star To the Right" but you gotta understand his background. As glad as I am that he's no longer on the show, I felt kinda bad at the way he died. Plus, who knows? Maybe Kurt is really alive and that skeleton Greg found might've been someone else. So if that's the case, Greg died without knowing the truth. It's ok to hate him for almost wiping Storybrooke and its residents from existence but I can't help but feel bad for him after seeing his tragic childhood.

I don't hate Greg. I felt sorry for him. But he did resort to some terrible acts to deal with the loss of his father. And he never felt any remorse for the things he did, unlike Tamara. But I don't hate him. In the end, both he and Tamara were simply exploited by Pan.

Aside from torturing my favorite character he was just such a wimpy annoying villain. He always had this kicked puppy look and it was not cute. He was such a dweeb (which would be fine as a quality on its own, but did not work for his character). He was kind of a tool really.

That said it's not his actions that got me to hate him. It's how they wrote him. It's his weak personality type. I found it hard to sympathize with him as he was such a pathetic character (in my opinion. But maybe that patheticness is something I should sympathize with...

In my humble opinion "Pathetic" is a bit harsh word for Greg.Well it's not a secret that I am a hardcore Regina fan but still....I can't come to terms with hating Greg. The scene where he tortures Regina still gives me mixed feelings & it hurts like hell to watch but unlike Tamara he didn't deserve such a death! You can see it in his eyes just a few moments before his shadow is being ripped out that he realizes he is being tricked with this whole office thing & destroy all the magic. How can I hate him when I know that what he did was driven by his love for his lost father? Don't forget that his mother was already dead & in the blink of an eye he lost his other parent too (Disappeared in a god forsaken town where magic was real & no one seemed to know about its existence.) His “ I'll find you, Dad. I promise, I'll never stop looking.” promise as a young boy still gives me the chills! And after nearly 30 years he did. And only his perseverance is an admirable character trait for me!

I disagree but I can respect your opinion. I said that it wasn't so much that he tortured Gina then it is that I just don't like how he is written as a villain. In fact I honestly rather enjoyed that torture scene--I have this twisted enjoyment of seeing my favorite FICTIONAL (all caps to emphasize that this only applies to fictional characters) in physical pain. Weird, yeah I know. The reason I don't like him is completely based on the fact that I just don't think he's a well written villain. He was more of a follower than a leader and I don't care for that. I actually think that Tamara was a more sympathetic character, she was able to look Rumple in the eyes and apologize, admitting she didn't know what she was getting into. Like I said I do kind of feel bad about the whole lost father thing and his motives for his actions but I still don't like him, I think he was a weak character. But I totally respect that you do like his character; trust me I'm the Harry Potter fan who likes Umbridge...someone's gotta like the unloved characters.

Not a "well written villain" Exactly! I totally I agree with that 'cause no matter what the writers intention, Greg was anything else BUT a villain. A follower yes, even a tool but in no way the head boss of all EVIL and this is why he appears so badly written. But don't get me started with how many other OuaT characters aren't well written....As for the "someone's gotta like the unloved characters." Yep! I 100% feel you! I can't help but falling for those who aren't part of the majority.

I feel like he would have been better written as a good guy. He seemed more...confused than villainous. Oh lordy lordy let's not even get into how they started writing Snow, I mean I don't really hate her anymore but I feel like she kind of lost her spunk after season 2. Right xP I mean I don't do it with every show but I find myself liking the characters that could use a fan or two.
