Can anyone help with this confusion from "Shattered Sight"?

During the battle between Snow and Regina, anyone notice from this screenshot that it looks like David is helping MM up? Also throughout the whole battle, it looked like he was silently cheering her on? Aren't they supposed to hate each other while under the curse? Why does he care? I know they literally share a heart but judging from them throwing insults at each other, I thought that didn't matter.
