"Deer, get back inside, now!" A white she-cat meowed.
"But why mama?" The tiny tan and white kit squealed.
"Cause I said so now get in!" She pushed Deer back into the cavern. Deer sat next to her brother, a gray tom, Storm. "Storm, do you think mama likes us?"
"Of course Snow loves you. She is just tired that's all." A brown tom meowed, his voice deep with sorrow. This cat was Bird that swoops low, their father. Deer twitched her ears, feeling the deep sadness waves coming from him. She knew he was lying. Her own mother didn't like them or even want them. She glanced at Storm who seemed to be thinking the same thing. Bird smiled fakely, "You two get some rest. I heard Stoneteller is making you to-bes tomorrow." He bounded out of the cavern and Storm rested his head on his paws. Deer looked at her younger brother sadly and sighed. She rested her head on her paws and curled her tail around her tight. Her eyes closed and she fell sound asleep.
Deer walked through a stary field. Something wasn't right, but she couldn't tell what. What ever it was, it didn't matter. She was just dreaming. The grass was soft on her paws. This did feel strange as she was use to the rocky floor of the mountain. Is this what it is like for clan cats? And where am I? Out of no where, something tackled her from behind. Deer screeched and her eyes flashed open and she looked quickly around, eyes filled with fear. She sighed, "Just a dream..."
Storm yawned and looked at Deer, "Bad dream huh?" She nodded and padded out of the cavern into the cave. Snow saw her and ran over. She hissed, "What are you doing out? Get back in! Or you can go hungry!"
"Snow. There is no need to be so tough on the poor kit. She is close to being a to-be. You shouldn't treat her like a newborn." A blueish gray she-cat meowed. Snow glared.
"What are you talking about, Wave? They will never be a good enough to-be or hunter or cave guard! They play too much!" Snow snarled. Wave somehow kept calm.
"All kits play. You don't need to hurt their feelings!" Wave's rage finally showed as she stormed off toward Stoneteller, who was sitting by the prey pile. She whispered something to him and then he stood up. He yowled, All cats outside to the pool for a gathering!" He then padded out quickly. Bird came out of the cavern with Storm and the three walked to the pool. Deer had a hard time not showing her sadness as her mother went into the prey hunters' cavern.
Stoneteller sits on a ledge above the pool. "Tribe, gather for a cerimony we have not had for quite some time." The cats began to sit in front of the pool, Deer and Storm in the front. Stormteller yowls so everyone can hear, "Two kits are ready to begin training as a to-be. I ask my ancestors to look down on these two kits. Deer, Storm. Do you accept?"
"I do!" The two siblings cheered. Stormteller nods and look down into the pool.
"Then you will begin your training tomorrow! Storm, Snake will teach you. Deer, Star will train you." Deer rushed to Star and smiled at her. Star smiled back. Deer couldn't wait for her training to begin!
