My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Question

What's your opinion on humanized pony fanart?

I personally like them depending on the art style. I even draw humanized MLP fanart myself. The humanization I can't stand are the Rule 34 and lesbian fanarts and the anthropomorphism fanarts ie drawing the ponies as ponies with human statures or furries.

Well, it depends. I absolutely hate it when they're drawn as humans with unicorn horns or pegasus wings attached to their body. And some people draw them with the same colored skin, (e.g.- They draw Twilight with purple skin, RD with blue skin, etc.) which I also am not a big fan of. But that's just my opinion.

I actually prefer if they are drawn with their horns and wings. I absolutely hate it when they gives Twilight and Rarity tanned skin.

I think Rarity should be very light, I always imagine her to have this Marilyn Monroeish look as the glamorous pony she is, Twilight can't be tanned, since she is a nerd and spends all time inside. Appeljack has a strong tan, Pinkie pie a soft wan, Rainbow Dash a strong one, Fluttershy a soft one, Celestia is dark, Luna is very pale.

I imagine Rarity to be pale, but Twilight should be tan. Who cares if she's always inside! Some people are naturally tan

Personally I like the half human half pony ones. Also I like the incorporated wings and horn but not ears. 100% human ones are cool if drawn well. Also I have this thing about RD's hair cuz sometimes it looks weird. I'm not a big fan of the lesbian art ethier but each to his own.

I agree with what you said. It really does depend on the art style. I generally don't like the Rule 34, lesbian, and anthropomorphism fanarts. However, there are those few exceptions where I like the art because the artist draws so well. I actually really like the concept of having the ponies become humans and I think it would make a great show!

Obviously, no R34 for me, but I don't mind little romance like kissing or hugging or hand holding. I don't mind if they're straight or lesbian or gay, either. I don't mind humanized much at all, really.

It's good, even (don't flame me for it!!!) the R34 parts of it, yet I don't like the Stallion/Stallion gays. It's a little disturbing for me.

Stallion/Stallion is OK to me in humanized sometimes, but it's quite boring, since it's always Mig Mac/Braeburn

I myself love MLH, and draw a lot of it myself. I hate humanized MLP porn, just as much as regular MLP porn. MLH is still just one of my favorite MLP drawing styles, since drawing personal clothes is really important to me, and is one of my strongest areas in drawing. I never draw them ears or tails, I sometimes draw horns and always draw wings. You are welcome darling.

I generally hate humanized pony art for seven reasons.
1) It's related to a lot of Rule 34 material, which I hate for ruining an innocent cartoon for extremely young children. Then again the pictures where they are still ponies are even sicker, since it's essentially bestiality.
2) People always bring it up when taking about If it were anime, as if you couldn't have an anime about cute talking critters. Never mind that that exact thing was all the range in the late nineties with Digimon.
3) Humanized art is hard to do because you have to capture the character's personality while making them look completely different, which means most of it isn't very good despite being made by competent artists.
4) The humanized art rarely uses the Gala dresses, despite it being an obvious move that both would help solve the above problem, relive the artist from having to figure out what they should wear, and provide continuity with the show. Plus I just like the Gala dresses.
5) Attempts to keep the differences between the different pony races end up looking ridiculous, sometimes even ruining an otherwise descent picture. Although I admit that in theory it could be done well.
6) People fight about what ethnicity the girls should be, as if they had any race besides unicorn, pegasus, or earth pony.
7) The art generally makes the girls look older than they seem. Maybe it's just me but between the art style, the target audience, and the character's personalities I imagine them being somewhere in the early teen to early twenties range. The humanized art seems to make them in their mid teens to mid twenties. I guess basically this objection boils down to humanized art making them less cute.
8) The very fact that we have a category for fan art that makes them look human, but not one for making them look like semi-realistic ponies or full on anime-style ponies irks me in and of itself.
All that said and done I have seen humanized art done quite well and no single one of these things is a sure-fire to ruin a piece of fan art except Rule 34.
Ultimately my opinion depends on both the level of humanization and the quality level of the individual drawing - ironically a fully humanized pony ends up looking better then a partially humanized one.
A really good artist can make almost any concept look good so it's not so much that I hate humanized art as I hate that there is so much of it and that it's so poorly thought out.
