Colin Firth is classically handsome. When I first began reading P&P many, many years ago (I've read it countless times now) at least fifteen years before the 1995 BBC production; Colin is who I "pictured" as Mr. Darcy.
I immediately fell in love with the character and when I saw him brought to life by Colin Firth (the face I'd always envisioned) my heart melted. I've been in love with Colin ever since. So yes...short answer, HOT!!!
As a teen in the early 80' I, of course, had no idea who Colin Firth was. In fact I has since learned that the year I graduated high school was the year he made Dutch Girls, one of his first movies!
I've read that when one reads a book (as opposed to watching a movie) specific neurons fire in the brain (that do not when one watches a movie) allowing ones brain to create the image of a scene or a character. The author give his or her description of the character or place and then the brain takes over and fills in the gaps and in your minds eye you "see" a person or a place. When I read Darcy, I "saw" Colin or at least some version of him. Strange but true.
When the BBC production was aired on A&E, I was glued to it and now I own the DVD set. I watch it when ever I am stuck in bed for any reason or just on a rainy day. I still also read the book (as well as JA other novels) at least twice a year.
Colin is hot as Fitzwilliam Darcy and Mark Darcy and any other character he portrays...the man is just hot...period!!
