'Black Panther' being nominated for Best Picture at least was a good sign of Oscar starting to step out of their comfort zone - 'must only select seemingly artistic movies'. I've always thought that these seemingly commercialized blockbusters (to Oscar) were overlooked just because they are the mainstream movies which maybe Oscar thinks that will tarnish their reputation if they were to select. After all, some of these mainstream movies are pieces of art, just like those movies nominated. Capture the scenes which attract many people - is what movies are supposed to be, and there for us as the 'entertainment', and movies like 'Infinity War' certainly lived up to it.

Kind of agree with valleyer but I don't like mainstream movies constantly shoved down my face like they do with Grammys and popular music but on the other hand it also leads to the making of 'Oscar bait' movies, movies with special 'progressive' agenda designed to attract Oscar. Spider-Verse stands in between. It has that typical superhero movie characteristic yet felt like a well done, breath of fresh air movie.
