When I was younger my favorite film series was the live action Alvin and the Chipmunks film series. Although I was a casual fan I became a obsessed fan later on. I loved this series for a few years, but in 2016 I realized that I wasn't a super big fan anymore. Recently I noticed that my reasons for loving these films were silly. Well here's my review of the films.

Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)

The Plot: David Seville adopts the male chipmunks to save his career. David learns to consider them his family, but Ian Hawke wants to use the male chipmunks for money.

The Review: The plot is cute enough. Jason Lee and David Cross play the human characters goodly. However the chipmunks aren't that interesting and funny. Not that much happens in the first half of the film so the editing isn't that good. The film isn't terrible, but it's not great.

The Squeakquel

The Plot: David's cousin Toby takes care of the boy chipmunks. The boys go to high school and rival Ian's female chipmunks to help the school's music department.

The Review: The plot of this film isn't good. The chipmunks go to a high school meant for humans which is confusingly weird. Zachary Levi plays Toby who is funny, but this film needs more Jason Lee. This film has some funny David Cross scenes and some catchy songs, but everything else is pretty bad.

Chipwrecked

The Plot: David and the chipmunks try to go on vacation, but some slapstick gets them to a island. It's up to David to find the chipmunks before the eccentric Zoey uses them to get gold.

The Review: Jason Lee, David Cross, and Jenny Slate are good as the human characters, but the chipmunks aren't interesting. The film has enough Jason to avoid being awful, but over half of this film is uninteresting storylines about the chipmunks.

Road Chip

The Plot: The male chipmunks are worried about David getting married. Also a airplane worker is after them.

The Review: Jason Lee is still good and the chipmunks aren't. There's no David Cross, but Tony Hale is good as the newest villain. It has some fun scenes, but not enough to make this film good.

Overall:

The first film is worth renting, not buying. The others aren't really worth watching. These films aren't awful, but they're not that good.

Though the peg legged, eye patched, hook handed pirates we've come to love may not be the most historically accurate, they certainly are entertaining subjects for movies.
