Paul S. Tracey
Paul S. Tracey
If you’re into horror flicks, then you’ll definitely want to remember the name Paul S. Tracey. This rising actor has emerged in two frightening films, the newly released Peter Jakl cannibalism tale “Ghoul” and the experimental indie “Expressway to Your Skull,” screening on the festival circuit.

I recently caught up with Paul S. Tracey to find out more about bringing the fear on these scary projects.

First, tell us about your role in the new cannibalistic horror film “Ghoul.”

PAUL: My character in “Ghoul” is Ryan. He goes to Ukraine with his best friend and girlfriend to shoot a documentary about cannibalism of the 21st century. His family has funded the project so he's somewhat hell-bent on completing the film regardless of what happens.

What would you consider your characters ‘best’ quality? And their ‘worst’?

PAUL: I would say my characters best quality is that he's determined. But the same quality is also probably his worst because it blinds him from recognizing some warning signs that things aren't okay around him. It also makes him a little selfish at times.

How was it on set -- ever get creeped out for real?

PAUL: The creepiest scene for me to shoot was probably in the tunnels. We had to walk about 30 minutes into these underground mines to get to the location where Petr Jakl wanted to shoot the scenes. Just being confined in a small space for hours (I was down there for 14 total) was pretty nerve wrecking - especially since I’m slightly claustrophobic.

Now, share with us a little about “Expressway to Your Skull.”

PAUL: "Expressway to Your Skull" tells the story of Ed and Amy, a thrill seeking couple whose impulsive trip to the woods leads them to cross paths with a psychotic survivalist. It’s more of an experimental film directed by Michael D. Okum.

What’s the biggest lesson you learned from working on these scary projects?

PAUL: Probably that there’s no way to rehearse for certain types of moments. You’ve just got to go in and give it your all. I also learned that often in horror films, it isn’t usually as nerve-wrecking for the actor as it is for the audience. A lot of times the characters are unaware of any impending danger until the last minute whereas the audience has to suffer through the suspense of knowing something bad is about to happen.

And, now just for fun:

What’s your favorite food?

PAUL: Probably sushi - if I have to choose one.

Cats or dogs?
PAUL: Dogs.

Favorite movie from your childhood.

PAUL: Michael Mann’s Last of the Mohicans.

Tell us one thing that would surprise our readers to learn about you.

PAUL: Growing up, I never wanted to be an actor. It didn’t even cross my mind till after I graduated from college with a Business Degree.

How can fans keep up with you?
PAUL: I’m usually pretty good at updating my Social Media Pages.

Something to keep in mind is that I'm not someone that grew up playing the Mario games or watching the Mario cartoons or the live-action movie. Despite not having much experience with the Mario franchise, I was interested in seeing the film.

In the film, Mario and Luigi are brothers who have started a plumbing business. The two brothers accidentally land in a magical world. Luigi gets kidnapped by the villainous Bowser. Bowser is planning on attacking the Mushroom Kingdom. Princess Peach, who is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, teams up with Mario to save Luigi and the Mushroom Kingdom. Along...
