Her nickname is the 'Tomboyish Mermaid'. Some people dissagree with Misty bieng a 'tomboy' and such, but think. It was not us fans that gave her that nickname. It was the pokemon company itself, so why would they name her that, if she was not a tomboy.
People disagree saying many excuses. 'She gazes over cute pokemon', 'she just has as much emotion as girly girls' and 'she sometimes dresses up'. -_- Please people! First off, Misty is infact a female. Us females tend to gush up anytime we see something cute, it is who we are. Next, she shows her feelings because she is HUMAN. Anyone who doesn't show their emotions (even to theirselves) have no soul. I bet you call Ash a girl to for getting emotional over pokemon, too. And for the dressing up thing, well, it's not that you can be stuck is shorts and tank tops all the time. MISTY IS A GIRL AND ALWAYS WILL BE A GIRL! That doesn't mean she is a tomboy.
Then again, Misty does recieve said nickname for many reasons. In the first five seasons, she wore shorts and suspenders. You could say that this is normal because she is young. I have to disagree, saying that even at the age of twelve, a girly girl would wear more colours that matched her hair and eyes. Also, these couldn't have been her sisters hand-me-downs, because they are young fashionistas and wouldn't like Misty's style. Another thing is a pokemon that she dreams of having. Tentacrule. You tell me why a girly girl would want this, and i won't bug you. I have reason to believe that her temper has something to do with her nickname too.
