So last time, Jacob realized how Quil could never get bored with Claire's games.


I woke, no idea what to expect.
Somehow, Leah, Seth, Quil and Embry standing face-to-face with Sam, Paul and Jared with the rest of their giant pack in the background wasn't anywhere near the possibilities I was thinking of. That's why I was so shocked when that was the very thing I saw.
Almost at once, I phased.
"What's going on?" I asked once the fire had done its job. "Why didn't you wake me?"
"These creeps hve crossed onto our land," Embry hissed, staring at the miniature crowd watching.
"You provoked us!" Paul shot back.
"How?" Seth argued innocently.
"You were the ones that did wrong!" Jared yelled.
I was so shocked at how much had happened since I had drifted off - how long ago? - and so confused as to what to believe that I didn't join in the arguments, or try to stop them. What was funny was that Sam hadn't tried to gain control of the situation yet. Was this a test? Was Sam trying to see how good a leader I made? Hold that against me? Well haha . . . verry funny - if it was. If it wasn't . . . well, I was back to being confused.
Shocking myself, I found myself looking at the only other person not joining in the argument - oddly - Leah. That was also out of character. She looked lost, but she was still staring at me, as if she was looking for guidance. I would give her it.
"SHUT UP!" I yelled full-bolt. Everything went quiet and everyone turned to look at me. "I don't know what happened . . . And frankly, I don't care. But anyway, you guys are still on Cullen land which, for now, is also our land. So . . . can ya go?"
The last part wasn't meant to be a question. So that's why, when they hesitated, I yelled, "That's an order!"
Sam flinched. Even if we were in different packs, he couldn't defy me.
He nodded and, slowly, his pack backed away, all together, before disappearing into the trees.
"What happened?" I asked my . . . pack. I still shuddered to think that I had my own pack.
No one answered.
Embry was pulling me away quickly, and kept doing so until we were, I was sure, out of earshot of the others. Then he stopped and looked at me.
"Why didn't you tell me, Jake?" he demanded, sounding slightly hurt and pushed aside.
What, the . . . ? "Tell you what?" I asked.
"Come on, Jake!" Embry complained.
"What?" I insisted.
"That you love Leah!"
I coughed, I was so shocked. "Love Leah?" Embry nodded. "No, I don't love Leah. I love Nessie. I might even still love Bella bit . . . Bit Leah? I don't think so, bro."
Embry looked at me for a second. I looked past him, at Leah, standing, still in human-form, with Quil and Seth. Nothing had changed. Except . . .
Oh god. Embry was right. I loved Leah.
