I had this idea, you know right after the part where L starts screaming in his chair, falls off and says you know "Shinigami..or god of death exist" can't remember exactly right now. Anyway I believe he would realise that he needs to go somewhere.
This will now be a crossover. L goes to Yuko's wish shop, from the anime/manga xxxholic. (Don't know it, I'd recommend it). I imagined them being old pals, like L saying she still overdresses for someone who stays in their house, and Yuko would say that he still looks like a crazy hobo...But anyway because Yuko grants wishes for a price, I thought L could wish for his real name, the one that Shinigami eyes can see on people's heads, to be removed.
By doing this, that white shinigami wouldn't be able to kill him, and Light would go insane, because we all know how he gets when something doesn't go according to plan ;)

But obviously there is maybe a few little flaws.
Like I know that the payment for removing someone's name permanatley would probably be too high for L to pay.
