What world leader do you admire?
I respect any responsible leader. Responsibility means that the leader recognizes that they live and lead in a global community, not just their own “world”.
How would you change the world?
I would start with making the world more environmentally safe. I think the pollution is not only changing our physical world, but it’s making people and animals emotionally sick.
How would you change your neighborhood?
My neighborhood has a lot of people from other countries in it. It makes me happy to live in a place that feels like a global home. My neighborhood is also very safe. We have everything we need close by, too. I wouldn’t change anything about where I live.
What have you learned about power?
When power is given to people who have compassion and empathy, it can be unstoppable. When power is given to irresponsible or arrogant people, it can be unstoppable. It takes democracy to eventually even it out.
Is power a good thing?
It is when it's used appropriately.
What makes a good leader?
Someone who listens to others and is willing to be influenced by other people’s opinions and experiences.
Who have been some of the best U.S. presidents, and why?
John F. Kennedy because he was loved by his country, even before he was assassinated. People loved him because he understood them.
Who have been some of the worst U.S. presidents, and why?
I don't care to answer this question.
When you become an adult, what do you think will be the biggest problem facing our nation and/or world?
Honestly I think my generation can fix a lot of mistakes previous generations made. One of the biggest issues we’ll have to face is pollution and health care in every country. My generation will live more globally than any other generation before us.
If you had the power to change one or two things about our country right now, what would it be?
Too many people live in poverty and don’t get good health care. It doesn't make sense to me because we are a rich country.
If you could put into place one law that pertains to kids in our country, what would it be?
Laws that protect kids in divorce situations. My family is working hard to protect the kids in Minnesota that are hurt by unfair laws. There should be a federal law that says both parents have equal rights unless they don't want it or are bad parents. I would also make a law that class presidents can sit on local community boards so they can make decisions that affect our education and communities.
Why are some people rich and others poor?
Some people are rich because they come from money. Others are rich because they invent things or create companies. Most poor people are poor because of lack of education and job opportunities. It's too hard to save money because things happen, like cars break down or you get sick. Or you can't afford child care.
Do you believe global warming is a fact or a myth? If you think it is a fact, what would you do about it if you were in charge?
I think it's a fact. If I were in charge, I would make many small changes right away, like stop making plastic bags for shopping. People can bring cloth bags with them. I would also outlaw cleaning products that aren't biodegradable. I would also make companies use less packaging for their products. I would also outlaw pesticides and hormone use in food.
If you were in charge of immigration, would everyone be allowed to enter the country? Would illegal immigrants be allowed to stay?
Anyone who wishes to contribute to the United States should be allowed to live here. Any immigrant would be allowed to stay as long as they pay taxes and participate in voting. Humans should be allowed to live wherever they choose, as long as they respect their communities and neighbors. Many of my friends and neighbors are immigrants. I can't imagine my life without them.
If you were in charge of education, would art class be as important as math?
Absolutely, yes. Creativity is equally as important as knowledge. Sometimes more important.
Do you belong to any organizations or clubs?
No.
If you could switch places with one person, who would it be and why?
Bill Gates. He is a “real” person, and he gives much of his wealth away.
