What world leader do you admire?
I admire many world leaders. Some of my favorites are Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson.
How would you change the world?
I would eliminate poverty, preserve the environment, and make sure that corruption doesn't get in the way of democracy.
How would you change your neighborhood?
I would start a tutoring program to help kids do better and stay in school.
What have you learned about power?
Power needs to be used only for the good of humanity, because it can cause serious problems when used inappropriately.
Is power a good thing?
Power is a good thing when it is in the right hands; otherwise it can be used to destroy humanity.
What makes a good leader?
Someone who listens to their people; actively considers their suggestions, learns from their mistakes, is decisive, has integrity, is humble and provides guidance to their people.
Who have been some of the best U.S. presidents, and why?
George Washington - he managed to lead a young nation, and headed the conventions to develop the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution. Abraham Lincoln - he abolished slavery, and led the nation through the Civil War. Franklin D. Roosevelt - he established the New Deal which got the economy working during the Great Depression and instilled confidence in citizens during his fireside chats.
Who have been some of the worst U.S. presidents, and why?
The US president that comes to mind, due to recent events, is George W. Bush, because I don't agree with the way he is handling the Iraq war.
When you become an adult, what do you think will be the biggest problem facing our nation and/or world?
Pollution and global warming
If you had the power to change one or two things about our country right now, what would it be?
I would create a law that eliminates all budget earmarks - useless bits of spending. If earmarks are eliminated, approximately 78% of the US budget will be freed up to be utilized in areas where there is a more urgent need, such as the national deficit. I would also eliminate paid lobbying in an effort to give all parties involved in a dispute an equal voice.
If you could put into place one law that pertains to kids in our country, what would it be?
No kid can drop out of high school.
Why are some people rich and others poor?
Rich and poor are relative things, some people may be rich because they have inherited the money or they have had to work for many years to accumulate it. Many people are poor because they are born into it or they have poorly managed their money. However some people are not wealthy but still are rich because they are content with what they have.
Do you believe global warming is a fact or a myth? If you think it is a fact, what would you do about it if you were in charge?
Global warming is a fact, and I would push modes of transportation such as public transit that contribute less pollution into the air and decrease use of power plants that burn fossil fuels. This will help with the bulk of global warming which is caused by large amounts of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide, which is released by vehicles and the burning of fossil fuels.
If you were in charge of immigration, would everyone be allowed to enter the country? Would illegal immigrants be allowed to stay?
I believe that everyone should be allowed to enter the country if they have no criminal record, and will be able to contribute to society in its current state. I believe that illegal immigrants help the US because they do jobs that no other person wants to do and keep the economy going by spending money. I believe illegal immigrants inside the US should be given a certain amount of time to get immigrant worker papers.
If you were in charge of education, would art class be as important as math?
Art and math class teach you equally important but different ideas so they should receive the same funding and attention.
Do you belong to any organizations or clubs?
High School Marching Band.
If you could switch places with one person, who would it be and why?
I would switch places with the director of the National Board of Education so that I can start education laws that will keep kids in school, help those that are falling behind, and give opportunities to students that are doing well.
