Microsoft has recently taken the wrapping paper off of IE9 and released it to the world for public consumption. The browser offers many new features and a revamped user interface that has been receiving generally positive reception from its end users.

Naturally, Microsoft has been quite pleased with the growth and adoption rate that the browser has been receiving. Currently IE9 holds 3.6% usage share on Windows 7 and is continuing to grow at a rapid pace, Microsoft states on their blog:

According to Net Applications’ latest data, worldwide, IE9 share on Windows 7 reached 3.6% for the month...

Microsoft this week rolled out a second preview of its Internet Explorer 10 browser. Like the first, IE10 Platform Preview 2 is primarily intended to give Web developers and designers an early look at the upcoming features so they can prepare accordingly. Outside of a handful of demos, there isn't much for the average user to play around with -- it doesn't even ship with a URL bar -- but it does reveal that Microsoft appears to be on the right track.

One of the more talked about additions is support for the Web Worker API. What this does is give developers the freedom to throw multiple scripts...

Microsoft continues to hold back rival browsers on Windows 7 in the United States and worldwide.

Microsoft’s latest browser, Internet Explorer 9, was released in March to Windows 7 and Vista users. Microsoft ditched Windows XP support in a bid to shift consumers and businesses onto Microsoft’s latest operating systems. Windows XP still accounts for nearly 50% of all operating system usage share worldwide, holding on to its title of most widely used operating system. Microsoft’s competitors target Windows XP with their latest browser offerings, allowing them to pick up additional usage...

Windows 7 users have warmed up to Internet Explorer 9 more than they have with any direct rival of this IE version, namely Firefox 4.0 and Chrome 12.

According to statistics from Internet metrics firm Net Applications, this is valid both in the United States and worldwide, with IE9 grabbing the second spot in terms of usage share behind its precursor, Internet Explorer 8.

At the end of June 2011, some 47.94% of Windows 7 users in the US were still running IE8, a consistent drop compared to the previous month’s usage statistics, when it accounted for as much as 53.54%.

In the same period of...

Microsoft's new browser, Internet Explorer 9, seems to have little to say about Microsoft. It doesn't even say "Internet Explorer" anywhere on the browser.

Microsoft has trimmed the fat off the glassy browser frame, creating more on-screen playground for Web developers to stretch out on.

It's clear Microsoft has made some major development changes to bring back the millions of Web users who have been lured away by Mozilla Firefox, a competitor that has whittled Internet Explorer's share from more than 90 percent to 57 percent of the market.

Microsoft released the new browser Monday night in...

The latest NSS Labs report is in, and the findings show that Internet Explorer completely dominates all other browsers when it comes to preventing socially engineered malware. For those that aren’t aware, socially engineered malware is a form of malicious software that attempts to trick users into installing it, and thanks to Internet Explorer 9’s SmartScreen URL filtering the browser prevents 92% of it; and up to 100% when you include Application Reputation to filer untrustworthy executables.

It might seem impossible to believe, but Windows Vista is drawing to the end of its short, unhappy life. Under Microsoft’s official product lifecycle, the mainstream support phase for Windows Vista will end in less than one year, on April 10, 2012—five years, two months, and 16 days after it became generally available on January 25, 2007. (For business editions, there’s an extended support period that lasts another five years, guaranteeing security updates until 2017.)

I don’t expect there to be any great outcry when Vista fades away. But knowing that end-of-life date helps answer one...

Microsoft said on Monday that it will postpone the release of Internet Explorer 9 in Japan.

The company issued a press release on Monday stating that due to the recent earthquake, it will be postponing the Japanese release of Internet Explorer 9.
