Oh, so... as you suspected... Hugh is waking up...
But let's try and be optimistic :)
Enjoy!
This one is loooooooooooooooooong
Hugh woke up to the sound of… well nothing. He knew it was a dream. It was too good to be anything else. He kept his eyes closed and tried to hold on onto the last pieces of his dream. He could still feel Lisa next to him. He ran his hand on the side of the bed she was supposed to be sleeping on. Nothing. Hugh sighed, he kept his eyes shut all the time. He could still smell her, it was like sheets were irradiating Lisa’s scent. It felt so real.
Maybe too real.
Hugh’s eyes snapped open. That was odd. He was in their bed, in their bedroom, in their house. Hugh smiled, he was still confused though. Why didn’t he wake up?
Why wasn’t Lisa in the bed? He couldn’t hear anything. There was no one around.
Was this some kind of a transition? Between the real and ‘dream’ world. Maybe he was supposed to live in a world like this but without everyone else for a day, and then he would wake up tomorrow.
It was so confusing.
Hugh got up and as he did, a piece of paper caught his eye. It was a note.
‘I didn’t want to wake you up, I took the kids to my parents. We’ll be back till six. I asked Estelle to make you breakfast and lunch. Lisa’
So, this was still the ‘yesterday’s’ world, then. They just went to Lisa’s parents. Maybe that wasn’t too bad. He looked at his watch. It was half past ten. He had just enough time to sit down and think about everything. Maybe even go through some pictures. Yeah, he’d like that. He went to the closet and changed. Then he went to the bathroom. After brushing his teeth, he looked in the mirror. It was his ‘old’ him.
However, not everything was the same. The man in the mirror was still a little bit different. Hugh thought about it a little, and then he spotted it. He had a smile on his face.
He was actually smiling all the time. He liked that difference.
He got to the kitchen and found a woman in there, preparing something at the counter.
As soon as the woman saw him enter the kitchen, she said with a smile
“Good morning Mr. Laurie… Your brad and jam are ready”
Hugh smiled at her “Thank you, Estelle”
This was one of the times he didn’t regret buying Elyon litter of toys. Because she told him Estelle was African American and that she was in her sixties and the fact that Lisa mentioned Estelle making him breakfast, he now knew who the woman in front of him was.
Hugh sat down to the kitchen table and Estelle put a plate in front of him. It smelled delicious; he never thought a simple breakfast could smell so good. Eat in the morning was something he just had to so he could have strength for the all they shooting. He would just gulp a glass of milk or make himself cereal. But it was always quick. He never had time to just sit at the table and eat in peace.
He took a bite and chewing on it said “Perfect”
Estelle smiled, but her facial expression changed.
“Oh, I almost forgot” that was why her face changed
“Mr. Fry called. He said he was available today and that he could come by if you weren’t busy. I told him you’d call.”
She got back to the kitchen counter and started putting away the ingredients she used to make Hugh’s breakfast.
“Thank you” Hugh said again and his stomach reminding him he hadn’t eaten in a while, he turned back to his plate.
Hugh heard of Steve an hour before, just when he finished having a meal. Steven was supposed to arrive in an hour. Hugh was nervous to meet him. Did he change? Was he the same? Would he see the difference in Hugh’s behavior? Could he help Hugh get some answers Elyon couldn’t tell him? All of this played on Hugh’s mind constantly. Luckily, he found something to keep him far away from anxiety. Going through other boxes in the living room, Hugh found photos. He was dying to take a look at them.
First picture he stumbled upon was the one of all of them having a barbeque, just like the day before.
Hugh was busy prepping meat, Becca and Charlie were playing cards by the table, Billy was ‘chasing’ a somewhat three-year-old Elyon and Lisa was watching all of them from a garden chair, sitting behind a huge belly.
Hugh flipped the photo- it was signed ‘03/08’. That meant Lisa was eight months pregnant back then and the kids were probably on the spring break.
He had no idea who took the picture, though. The next one gave him an answer.
Shot on the same day, this one had Hugh, Elyon and Steven in it. In every picture he took a look at, this world’s ‘Hugh’ was happiest man ever. Especially in the ones where he was alone with Lisa.
Hugh looked at one photo that was shot by someone inexperienced. The shot was narrow and a piece of Hugh’s head was missing, but it was still very pretty.
In the photo there were Hugh and Lisa, just glancing at each other, smiles covering both of their faces. Hugh momentarily felt the strong bond the two people in the picture shared. They were in love. There was no question about that.
Hugh smiled.
He told Lisa he loved her last night… However, he felt he was missing on some really vital moments in their ‘lives’.
He kept browsing the pictures and came upon a recent one.
All eight of them were scooted around the living room couch.
Billy was making silly faces and Becca was tickling Nick. Charlie was busy handling Elyon, while Lisa and Hugh looked at each other from the corners of their eyes, failing to pose for the camera.
“I remember taking that picture” Estelle showed up above Hugh out of nowhere, scaring him a little.
“Oh, you do?” Hugh took a look at the picture again and flipped it. It just read ‘7th of March’
“Yeah, I do… You looked so cure, I had to take a picture of you” Estelle said in her deep, but still womanly voice.
“I can never forget how confused Mrs. Laurie was…” she giggled a little.
So, Lisa was Mrs. Laurie, Hugh smiled, she was Edelstein probably only for the public.
Hugh shook his head at Estelle’s words.
“Confused? About what?” Maybe she could tell him something more about it.
“You don’t remember?”
Hugh shook his head again.
“You told her… Lemme remember the exact words ‘You have no idea how glad I am for listening to your advice’… Yeah, something like that” Estelle thought about it a little.
“And then Mrs. Laurie said ‘What advice?’ ad you told her something like ‘You’ll never know’…” Estelle sighed.
“The poor thing kept thinking about it a whole next week, you never told her what was it about”
The doorbell rang. “That’s Mr. Fry, I let him in at the gate two minutes ago, he must have already parked his car. I’ll get the door” she said, but before she had a chance to leave the living room, Hugh got up to open the door himself.
OMG!!! Maybe not a bitch after all!! But I sure am torturing him!! (and you XDDD)
Oh, mark Saturday as the best day of your life...
