I found this interesting, I had no idea so many details were so far from what happens in real life. It just goes to show how TV shows can screw one's view of the world. Scary.

I had a suspicion they got the facts wrong. I don't really believe much of House ever since they totally screwed up representing the Mormon religion, which I've been a part of since I was a kid.

Really? Wow, you'd think they'd get THAT right... What exactly did they screw up?

The primary thing they screwed up was the supposed "blessing" Cole gave the patient. It was more like a prayer, but didn't start out properly, and doesn't involve touching someone's forehead. Also the words he said sounded nothing like what one would say.

Seemed like the House writers were trying to show him giving a blessing, which first, the patient's sitting up. Second, you place both hands on a person's head. Third, you pour a drop of consecrated olive oil on the person's head that has been blessed for the healing of the sick.

Then it starts out with saying the person's full name, then something like by the authority of the Melchizedek priesthood which I hold I lay my hands upon your head and anoint you with this oil, which has been set apart for the healing of the sick in the name of Jesus Christ amen.

Something like that, then the guy giving the blessing takes his hands off the person's head and puts them back on and seals the oil and gives them a blessing, like asking God to help them to recover and be comforted and whatever they're inspired by God to bless someone with.

There was probably other stuff, but I can't remember exactly been too long. Maybe I'll write an article about it one of these days.

They did get some stuff right, like I was happy Cole punched House over what he was saying about Joseph Smith cause what he was saying was completely inappropriate and wrong. Also I think Cole would have a hard time working for House cause it's a commandment to be honest when you can be, like how he put Kutner up for voting out cause he was keeping his promise to Cuddy.

They were right about not having to follow the letter of the law all the time though, like Cole normally shouldn't drink, but under that circumstance to save a patient, it was probably the right thing to do.

I'm not surprised there were mistakes in this. They were probably intentional because they had to readjust the facts to match the storyline of the episode. However, that doesn't justify them portraying false facts. Then again, it's a TV show and no one can ever really believe everything on TV....

Thanks RP, that's very interesting. It seems to me they tried to simplify the whole thing and in the process it lost most of its meaning... True, you can't believe everything you see on TV, still, I would have thought TV writing of this calibre would call for better research.

Yeah they probably did try to simplify it so it did lose some meaning. I also found it interesting Cole had sex outside of marriage, which is a pretty bad sin for our church. But it's alright though seems like he repented.

Also House is right about the "magic underwear", but they're called garments and you get them after going through the temple and have to wear them all the time (except if you're swimming). And the ordinances in the temple and the meaning of the garments is quite sacred to Mormons and isn't spoken about, so Cole wasn't going to tell House when he asked. I, and probably all other Mormons, would be really upset if House said something about their meaning. I haven't been through the temple yet cause I'm not quite old enough yet.

I dunno I don't blame them for getting facts wrong cause they've got tight deadlines and whatnot. I know they sometimes get the medicine wrong cause my mom's a nurse practitioner (practically a doctor) and sometimes they use wrong tests for some theories.
