House decided to patiently wait for Remy in his office, knowing she would have to come back soon. It took her an hour to get back into his office where House was waiting, much to his surprise. Jimmy boy sure hasn’t lost his stamina then, he thought to himself as she walked in with crumpled clothes and slightly messed up hair. The way she looked at that moment was a sure-fire way of knowing what she had been doing even if he hadn’t seen the beginnings of it from the balcony. He smiled to himself a little knowing that he had well and truly caught her in the act, as the look on her face clearly showed that she wasn’t expecting him to be there, yet she remained calm all the same.

‘Where have you...’ House started before she cut him off.

‘I was in the lab running some tests, the patient has cancer. Now the case has been solved, I’m going home.’

She didn’t even wait for his approval before heading out, ready to go home. He saw the test results, and the MRI she had done, without his permission, and she was right. There was a brain tumour present showing the late stages of cancer. This patient was terminal and there was nothing they could do about it. So he decided to let her go, knowing his leg wouldn’t be able to carry the burden of running after her, or limping after her, so to speak. Then, he had an idea. A typical idiotic Gregory House idea involving prying into people’s lives. He decided to follow her. He had a feeling she was going to meet up with James. He wanted to know for sure whether it was just sex, or it was the beginning of a new relationship. Either way, he was trying to look out for his best friend, whether he saw it that way or not. House knew Remy has Huntington’s and didn’t want James to have to deal with another dying girlfriend. He wanted to save him before he fell in love and it was too late. Although he would never admit it, he cared for his best friend and didn’t want to see him hurt again. He couldn’t stand the man he became when his heart had been broken into many tiny pieces, especially when he was shut out of his life, not being able to pick up the pieces and put them back together, one by one. Instead he had to watch him get close to mending his broken heart, then through some clumsy act have it broken again as he is reminded by Amber, whether it’s when he sees someone that looks like her from the back, or opens his drawer to find the last note she had written. House didn’t want to see his friend go through all this again, afraid that if it happens again, an already fragile heart will be pushed to the edge that it will be impossible to mend it with pieces scattered everywhere.
