Silent Hill: Downpour is a recent underrated (by players) horror game. In my opinion, it's the first genuinly scary horror game in years. That feeling you get when you slaunter through the foggy city, and it's starting to rain... *shivers* The rain starts to get more and more heavy, thunder appears, becoming a storm... That's when you have a feeling like: "I'd like to get out of here, right now." And as soon as you think nothing's out there, you get jumped by a Screamers. "AAAAAAAH...!" (I'm sorry, the image won't work)
Silent Hill 3 is in my opinion the scariest installment in the series though, and probably the scariest game I've ever played. The atmosphere is by far more unnerving than in any other Silent Hill game, and it has a lot more WTF monsters. A lot of people claim that Silent Hill 2 is the scariest game in the series, but I respectfully disagree. Silent Hill 3 has atmosphere and jump scares. You open a door, just mindin' your own business, and BAM! You're jumped by a dog! "FU-!" And one of the endings in which Heather gets a mental breakdown... *shivers*
LSD: Dream Emulator (has nothing to do with the drug, btw) is an old, under the radar PSX game. And not techincally a horror game, but it frightened me more than once. Few games scared me more times than this one. Just look at the image! Disgusting! I never managed to beat it, as you just seem to mindlessly wander around (the footsteps you make sound horrible, btw) walking into various worlds. And you see some very freaky stuff, from samurais playing footy, to a giant naked bald man lying through the wall.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is mad scary, many people think of it as being the scariest game of all time. I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't think it's actually scary as Silent Hill 3... but that's only because I'm more sensitive to the type of horror that the Silent Hill games bring. In Amnesia, you you don't get a weapon to defend against the horrific creatures that roam the castle. The character you play with has a phobia for the dark, which makes you constantly on the lookout for all available sources of light, while still be on your toes. Deformed creatures could attack you at any time. This makes you feel very uneasy. And once you hear the music is acting up, you know something is after you. And you're standing in the room with only one exit. F*ck.
