What is the most shocking and/or brutal horror movie you have seen? And why?

The hotel scene in The Devil's Rejects was pretty brutal for me, but I'm looking for more underground films.

À l'intérieur (Inside) was extremely graphic. It´s a french movie, which makes it even more scary in my opinion. hah
Anyways, it´s just...you know, it makes me not want to be pregnant EVER. Also, the killer is really really freaky because of the clothes she is wearing. She looks like a witch with the black hair and her ugly face.
The silent scenes were the ones who scared me the most. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Like the one where the killer is just standing next to the girl watching her sleep. In this moment you can´t see the killer´s face and you´re like "what the hell is she doing? is she going to stab her or something?". You just keep waiting for something to happen, you know? I kept closing and opening my eyes during this scene. haha END OF SPOILER END OF SPOILER END OF SPOILER

Also, Frontières was brutal for me the first time I watched it, but not anymore...so it´s hard to explain why I liked it so much, sorry. I´ve got to say that the acting is great in this one.

I also have to say Haute Tension (High Tension). Again, one genious piece of french horror. In this movie the killer is not just the killer, that´s why it´s so shocking. It´s also very well done.

I LOVE Devil´s Rejects but nothing can beat the first movie. It was excellent. The bunny chase is the best part of the movie. The second one wasn´t that scary. =(
jlhfan624, so what movie are you talking about, the first one or the second?

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still surprisingly shocking. But probably the most brutal horror movie I've ever seen is Audition from Asian horror master Takashi Miike. I have a pretty high tolerance for the sick stuff, but this one was almost too much for me. It's really slow at the start, but don't be fooled, the ending pays off!
over a year ago jlhfan624 said…
Audition OMG. Great pick, but I kinda didn't like the movie. I wasn't really shocked or disturbed by it more like WTF?! I wasted money on this? Eh.
over a year ago AgentCoop said…
I think why it had such an impact on me is that I saw it just as I was getting into Asian horror and I knew nothing about it. So I'm watching this movie sort of meander along and I'm so bored I almost turn it off a couple of times. Then you get to the last twenty minutes or so and this little waif of a girl is doing stuff that's so twisted. I didn't see the curveball coming, and I always appreciate that in a movie.

The Most brutal I've ever seen was the first time *a LONG time ago* I saw Saw. Well, It might have been Saw 2, anyhow, I wasn't into Horror yet, and So It scared me to death and I thought "torture porn" was freaky. Now I love It so It's a bit odd.

Besides that, I was up late a few months ago and Hostel was on so I decided to give It a try. It was like Saw, only more graphic. Some of it was really disturbing, much more so then Saw, almost like they were trying to outdo Saw, ya know?

Lemme think... There has got to be something I'm forgetting.. Okay, now I remember. One day a movie called In A Dark Place was on Demand, so I watched It and OMG HORRIBLE. I mean, It's like a ghost story, but It was boring, the plot was off, and then all of a sudden, the two main characters, who are woman (I have NOTHING against this though) started making out in the middle of nowhere, at a very random moment. Anyhow, I kept watching until the end (Lord knows why, It really was horrible) and at the end *POSSIBLE SPOILER* Leelee Sobieski is chasing this kid on a tree branch and then he's like, drowning himself and she says something about being the "Only one" and then, out of nowhere, her face starts to fade into a ghost, and you know how sometimes your caught of guard and your hair stands on end because of something? That scared me so immediately bad that my heart was beating fast. *END OF POSSIBLE SPOILER* Anyhow, I researched the movie online *like I always do* And most people were confused also. It just wasn't very good at all, and VERY confusing. [/lame]

No way jlhfan624, DON'T see In A Dark Place, It was crap. Do see Let The Right One In though, woo! If you get Let The Right One In, put on the french dialoge with subtitles though, It's alot better in that way. That's just my opinion =]

Martyrs is a very violent film
there are a hand full of deaths and some serious torture
it is also kinda sad to know what happpened to both of the girls Anna and Lucie. Though it was sorta twisted it was still and good film, its disturbing and moving at the same time.

I touht some of the deaths in Cabin Fever were really bloody and gross, also Stacy's death in the Ruins was sad and made me wince (even though it was really Eric who died like that in the book.)
And REst Stop was brutal to me.

well my husbands thinks cannibal holocaust was because they killed live animals for real( that was made before the law of no killing animals for movies are set)
mine would have to be Nekromantik 2 (german film)
really the whole movie was disturbing and shocking. but mainly this woman digs up her old lover from the grave..may i add hes rotting and slimy and decayed. and numerous times has sex with it, then falls in love with a living man..then bangs him, then while having sex with him..cuts off his head and replaces her current lovers head with the decayed ex lover.

and The red room (japanese)- concept of movie is that 4 ppl are locked in a room with a red light and are given the chance of winning millions of dollars...(done before i know) but they draw cards to see who can do whatever gruesome act they choose) it gets really violent and gory.

I feel all foreign horror is shocking. and sometimes brutal but still makes some great films

american movie culture though I would have to say Fire in the sky ( hello ...scary alien experiments :( ) and cradle of fear and last house on the left..the whole raping scene was harsh..
over a year ago jlhfan624 said…
Ugh those Nekromantik movies are ones I will NEVER see. I can stomach a lot but not that. I've seen clips and they are just not fun.

I believe Cannibal Holocaust is one of the most realistic Brutal horror movie that is why it was restricted in many countries back in 80s. It is not a movie for all and it needs strong stomach to watch. It is highly recommended to see the content advice on imdb.com, before watching the movie.

ive just found that feed wondering if youre still searching for disturbing/shocking horror movies ;-)

as some users have mentioned, the french horror industry delivers the best quality&atmospheric productions, l interieur (sorry we havent got all those signs in bosnia), haute tension, martyrs are top horror movies.

some tips, you said you like it underground
meat griner (thai horror movie)
[Rec] & the upcoming [Rec2] i believe

i agree with Pennywise on Last house another one i thought is the remake of Halloween directors cut addition but i just thought it was disturbing rather than scary.Texas chainsaw massacre is pretty good as well as the hills have eyes. The House on Haunted hill original starring Vincent Price is really good something that really shocked me about it was the ending.House of wax starring Vincent Price was pretty surprising as well
Thats just to name a few when i think of the one i can see in my head but can't think of the title and when i think of some more I'll let you know

The August Underground Triligy 2 me wasn't all that great... it just seemed like storyless, nonsense.(unless ur just into meaningless sickness & perversion) the plot seemed if not lost, too simpleton. not really scary, just twisted & sick. INSIDE & MARTYRS are perfect examples of TRUE FUCKING HORROR....PERIOD!!! They both have truely disturbing & terrifying storylines. if anyone knows of other flix as good as the later mentioned,PLEASE let me know.

The movies that has scared me the most this far would have to be, "The Bad Seed" (1955) and "Shadow of a Doubt" (1943). I know both movies are older, but the fact that it's all phsycolical and possible is what makes these movies scary to me, because it's what you don't see; your mind can run pretty wild and I love a good classic movie because it relies more on the story then the special effects, which, let's face it that's all movies are really about today is how much special effects can be used. The most brutal movies I've seen would have to be "Silence of the Lambs"...the way Hannible excaps his lock up...that was creepy, the whole movie wiged me out and again it's another great phsycolical film, then there's "Misery". This is the type of person you could run into in real life which just freaks me out. I don't trust country women anymore and the sludge hammer scene! Are you kidding me?! I couldn't walk for a month after watching that, that scene was totally brutal. Anyway, these are my personal picks for creepy and brutal.

I Spit on Your Grave was pretty brutal, but it wasn't quite as bad as I had expected--an anthology on cult movie classics didn't even give it a single star.

From another horror question, a fan named The Girl Next Door. The fact that the family appeared so "normal" made the story more disturbing. That and the fact that it's based on a true story. I'm waiting to read the book.

a lot of japanese horror is really strong and super graphic
the 'all night long' series
devil's experiment
lucky sky diamond (on veoh.com)

this chinese film men (sometimes man) behind the sun is based on experiments the japanese did on mancuria during the war. there were rumors that they used real corpses in the vivisection scenes.

martyrs is a great movie, i know people here have mentioned it already but i thought it was awesome.
hmm. still thinking. :)
