Harry Potter Question

Potential spoiler!

After the 7th movie, do you think Dumbledore is good or bad?
I read the book and I was okay with everything and today I saw the movie and Harry seeing Snape's memories change my sight of Dumbledore. I am not sure anymore, did he care for Harry or was it just that Harry has to be alive to save the world?

He's flawed, like all the other characters in the HP saga. Like everyone of us too. That's what makes all these characters so human (except for Voldemort, who is not only mega-flawed, but evil).

SUPPLEMENT : I think he's a good counterpart to Severus, who was a Slytherin that could have been sent to Gryffindor. All I'm saying is that Dumbledore has Slytherin qualities : determination, cunning, a tad manipulative too.

But we all know that belonging to Slytherin doesn't mean one is bad...

HP characters may be flawed, but few of them is so human.

Well, being flawed is part of our human condition. What made Voldemort inhuman was that he was perfect in his evilness, so to speak.

I have, but they said it was in his head, so i am not sure if it was real or just Harry's mind, because Dumbledore said so confusing things about the situation :)

He's good.

He didn't tell Snape that after Harry died he would come back alive and the horcrux would be destroyed because Snape would probably try to make it happen quicker and get it over with. But Dumbledore knew that Harry would come back after dieing because he was waiting for him at "Kings Cross." Sure Dumbledore kept secrets, but so does everyone else.

He is definitely good. I think that Deathly Hallows (book and movie) just shows that Dumbledore is human and therefore is not perfect. When Harry is younger, Dumbledore seems like an almost God-like figure who can never fail or make mistakes. In the final book, Harry finally realizes that Dumbledore is merely a man like himself.

Yeah I felt that way too. When I read the books I thought Dumbledore was awesome but that part made it seem like he was just power-hungry and didn't care about Harry. In the books I thought he was good but in the movie I thought he was bad. That confused me because I read the 7th book four years ago and didn't get a chance to re-read it before I saw the movie.

I am glad that someone saw it the same way :) I was kind of disappointed of the movie-situation ^^

Dumbledore did everything for the Greater Good. Since his family fell apart there was nothing else for him, but the Greater Good to cater for. That was his refuge, his solace, the goal of his life. And that's not a bad thing. We all do thing that can be questioned from a moral point of view. Everything we do can be questioned from a moral point of view. That is true for Dumbledore, Harry, Snape, Lily, Ron, you, me, everyone. Dumbledore was not a bad person.
