Harry Potter Question

Who has a harder childhood?

Harry - Harry lost his parents at a young age. He is forced to live with relatives who barely take care of him and despise him. He's always made fun at school and bullied by Dudley. He didn't have anything to look forward to in life until he found out more about himself.

Draco - His parents were always obsessed with making the Dark Lord proud and wanted him to follow in their footsteps. They taught him to be racist and arrogant and always made his decisions for him. When he did do something good, they acted as if it was expected and would bombard him with another task. He didn't have any love (except for his mum) and no friends to tell anyone his feelings. He never lived life for himself, but for his parents.

Neville: He grew up with his grandmother who was constantly making him feel uncomfortable by telling him how he wasn't like his father. Everyone thought he would be a squib and he wanted to prove to everyone that he does have what it takes to be a wizard. Oh, let's not forget, his parents were tortured into insanity and they do not remember him one bit.

Ron: Everyone always wanted him to do something as great as his brothers. He lived in their shadow and he didn't feel capable of anything.

Snape: His parents always fought about magic and he basically raised himself. He didn't have much money to spend and Hogwarts had to pay for his supplies. He wanted to be powerful and do something important with his life.

Dumbledore: His sister went crazy after the muggles hurt her and they had to keep her locked up away from sight. His father went to Azkaban and died and his mum died as well. His brother despised him because of his glory and he felt guilty that he wasn't able to be the son his mum would be proud of.

Hermione: She was made fun of even before Hogwarts and she didn't have any friends. She loved her education, but she couldn't help but think that she was bossy. She was insecure about how people felt around her.

I have to say Severus. Until he met Lily (at ten years old) he had, literally, no one to turn to. His father didn't like magic (and, by extension, himself)and he was extremely poor.

At least Dumbledore, Draco, Ron, and Hermione had people to turn to to comfort them (whether they did or not isn't the point) and support them. Harry had the memory of his parents to lean back on.

Well, Draco and Dumbledore didn't. DD lost his parents and he was a bit too obsessed with himself and Draco's parents never really cared.

We can assume (since Draco's mother risked her life in book 6 to make sure that Severus would help Draco to make sure he didn't die, and again in book seven just to make sure her son was safe) that Draco's mother cared for him. Since both Draco's parents left Voldemort's side to go searching for their son, I'm thinking it's safe to assume his father cared for him as well. As for Dumbledore: Dumbledore was adored by everyone when he came to Hogwarts. He was best friends with Grindlewald and close friends with Diggle (at least I think that's what his name was).

Yeah I don't agree that Draco had a bad childhood. He may have had pressure to be the perfect son in his fathers eyes, but that's nothing comapred to physical and mental abuse.

Harry; who'd want to put up with the twisted abuse of the Dursleys as well as the shit he puts up with at school? Snape, for example?

I don't know if you've heard of A Very Potter Musical, but this made me laugh.
"Draco - His parents were always obsessed with making the Dark Lord proud and wanted him to follow in their footsteps. They taught him to be racist and arrogant and always made his decisions for him."

Reminds me of...

"My name is Draco Malfoy. I am a racist. I despise gingers and Mudbloods. I hate Gryffindor house and my parents work for the man who killed your parents - do you want to be my friend?"

Aaahhh, cracks me up XD

He did, but he didn't show it very much. His first task was to obey to the Dark Lord's command. That's why Dumbledore, in book/movie 6 was praising Draco. His parents never did.

Harry or Draco. Or Snape.

But (This was pointed out to me by harrypotterbest) Remus should be on the list too. He was a werewolf from a young age, and he probably didn't, couldn't, have any friends. Probably had a very lonely life up until Hogwarts.

Coming from a home of verbal abuse which included alcohol that this stage in life I can honestly same I wish my parents had put me in an orphanage or fostercare. A slap or punch goes away but words stick for life. especially from the ones that are suppose to love you unconditionally.

Personally, I think Snape did. I know his life pretty much turned out how it did because of his own actions, but you can't help but feel bad for the guy. His story is heart wrenching. Screw Harry, he get enough love from others. Snape was hated until he died. If that isn't horrible, I don't know what is.

Without a doubt Snape. I'm sure the arguments entailed not just the magic it's self alone but his mother teaching him. As a child he would take that directly personal and blame himself for the problems. That's why such a strong adult man could be so easily manipulated through guilt.
