Look, Chuck is my favourite character, but I am an unbias fan, and Chuck is clearly the most overrated. BY FREAKING FAR. I do love him, but people tend to act like he is a god, and excuse every bad thing he does simply because he is 'Chuck Bass' and honestly, the way people talk about him, its making the signature line 'I'm Chuck Bass' old. I myself have read many people criticise Dan and Vanessa about several qualities that people like Chuck and Blair hold, yet people worship Blair and Chuck and HATE Dan and Vanessa. It's called double standing. I honestly read one person who said that Dan was disgusting because he was hairy and then they went on to talk about how hot Chuck is. It amused me quite a bit seeing Chuck is alot more hairy than Dan. See? Double standing. Another thing that annoys me is when Chuck fangirls always talk about how overrated Blair is (and don't get me wrong, she is) but then they always say Chuck is rated perfectly. It's crap.

AGREED! I've been defending her since the beginning of GossipGirl. Don't get me wrong, I know she messes up A LOT. But the degree of hate she recieves sometimes is disgusting. Everyone is so quick to blame her or hate her over the tiniest things.
I think Serena because even to have one fan would be overrating Serena :P

But back to this whole 'who is overrated' stuff. It's based on opinion, I personally think Chuck gets off with way too much because his dad is dead and he thinks he killed his mother. Yes, we get it, that is horrible, but that shouldn't be an excuse for every wrong doing that he does. I mean, IMO, his character was shot to hell in season 3. Everything I previously loved about him was just gone, yet people still think he is the best thing since sliced bread. Blair is very overrated too, but Chuck is to the next degree. His fangirls make me question peoples sanity.

First of all, with regards to 3x17 may I stat by saying CHUCK NEVER FORCED BLAIR TO GO UP THERE! She went up there on her own!!!1!! I was sooooo pissed @ her in dat episode cuz she blamed it on Chuckles, BITCH! And then she slapped him, I men wtf? He probally didn't even do much, he probs on agreed to the deal cuz he probs wanted to c if she wud betray him, WHICH SHE DID! Ugh, I dont really like Blair, only when she is with Chuck is wen I can tolerate her, cuz well, he is chuck freaking bass :D Back to 3x17, he barely did anything and everyone (on the show) hates him? Pretty sure he neva put a gun to her heaad. And then came 3x18 OHMIGOD! I DONT THINK I HAVE EVER HATED BLAIR MORE THEN I DID DAT EPISOODEEEEE. I mean all she did was whine and chuck was beeing sooooo nice 2 her and all she did was dump him!! She doesnt even deserve him IMO. He wud b much better suited 2 mee :P Also when he 'sold her out' ummmm pretty sure she did the EXACT SAME THING TO HIM in 3x06!!! when she tricked him into kissing that ugly guy becuz of a speeach? Realy?!?1 a speach? chucks was at least for a hotel! not to mention he forgave her lyk the nxt episode!! and she didnt even forgive chuck till the finale :O which was like 6 episodes after SHE betrayed HIM. about the finale., ugh, blair hate grew stronger :( I men c'mon!! she wasn't goin to c him!! and she was l8 anyway, and if she knows chuck bass she knows that if he gets sad he has to have sex wt=ith some1 lol. AND THE EFFING JENNY SLUT WAS THERE!!!!!!!!!1 (sorry really hate jenny, almost as much as i hate dan, but i''ll get on that l8r) i felt soooo sorry 4 chuck in the finale, i men he though she didnt love him anymore, what do you expect him 2 dooo? UGHHH I REALLY DISLIKED BLAIR IN THE FINALE! (only lyk her when she is around chucklessss) and she acted like she was a victom and started crying and bitching and i was lyk S H U T U P W H O R E!! You think Blair sucked in season three because of Chuck? Chair was her only saving grace. The part people hated had absolutely nothing to do with him, it was her storyline independent of Chair that was so unpopular.

Must I dislike him when he kills innocent people for fear of being accused of overrating him? The mistakes of a character and rating have nothing to do with each other.

See, this is what walduck was talking about, double standing. You say that Chuck has done wrong things, but that shouldn't be a reason to hate him? But for instance, if Blair was to do what Chuck did to her, I can tell you now a hell of a lot of Chuck fans would hate her. See? DOUBLE STANDING.
Look, IMO Chuck is overrated, very much. And I am not a Blair obsesser either, while I do like her character, she isn't my favourite. Chuck used to be my favourite character, but when a character turns crap, I am not going to pretend they are still amazing, if they are crap, they're crap. And some mistakes a character does, can ruin a character for me, if the mistakes a horrible and unforgivable. I get no one is perfect, but selling your girlfriend for a material gain? That is sick and degrading to women. As a respectable women of the 21st Century, that was hard to watch.
Blair is not my favorite character, but her mistakes have ZERO to do with that. Sure that might influence some people, but that's not the case for many. As for double standards, I hate to break it to you, but Blair benefits JUST as much as Chuck when it comes to that. I hate them same as you, but I bitch about NO ONE'S mistakes. This show is all about people making them!

*sighs*.. I just.. what do I even say to this that I haven't said a million times over? THIS IS FAKE. It is a TEEN DRAMA. It is not meant to be taken this seriously by anyone. The show isn't promoting that behavior, it's a part of the story. That's not degrading.
I get what you mean by people taking this too seriously, but it all comes down to interperentations. I personally don't like the way the females are being depicted on the show, as, well, doormats. Look at Twilight, one of the reasons I hate that piece of crap, is the interperentation of women. Just like when GG did that storyline on cancer, cancer is a very serious topic, not just for me, but for alot of people, and the way they interperated it was sickening. I get it is a TV show, but they really need to watch the way they interperate things, because it CAN become offensive, particually the cancer storyline.
