As for icons, you can use photoshop or another photo editing software. I personally can't afford photoshop so I use software downloaded for free offline (I personally use Picasa, Gimp, and Photo Pad Image Editor). Sure they're not that great, but they're better than nothing. Almost all the photos in my gallery I make myself. All you do is crop into a square, adjust the levels (hue, contrast, brightness, saturation, gamma, temperature, exposure, and all that other good stuff), and resize into 100x100.
