Q: “Which of your cast member(s) have you gotten closest to while filming Glee?” – Cynthia
A: I have to say that I can’t pick and choose the Gleeks I’ve gotten closest to because we are all such a tight knit family and we all love each other so much it’s kind of amazing and rare. We all have a really special bond and I’m very appreciative of every cast/crew member we have. Most of us spend a lot of time with each other off-screen too, which creates an amazing chemistry that I think definitely reads during our scenes.
Q: “What other actors/singers inspire you the most?” – Skweakx
A: Wow, there are so many artists that I feel have inspired me. I’d have to say acting wise some of my favorites are: Kate Winslet, Sandra Oh, Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp. They are all so versatile. In the music world, my ipod is filled with everything but I’ve been listening to ADELE, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Jason Mraz, Billy Joel… etc. EVERYTHING!
Q: “I heard that you were in Spring Awakening on Broadway (LOVE that show)… Do you enjoy acting for TV more/less than on Broadway?” – Rose
A: Thanks for the Spring Awakening support! :) I have to say, as a theatre trained actor, there is nothing like Broadway/live theatre. I love the instant response and energy from the audience. TV is a completely different world and I’m pretty new to it, so I’m enjoying learning new things everyday- but Glee is the ultimate dream, because we get to do both!
Q: “Hey Jenna! You were so amazing in SA [Spring Awakening]! How does living/working in New York differ from LA? Do you enjoy it more/less?” – Kelly
A: Thank you! Well, they are both just so different, I’m hoping that I can be bicoastal and have the best of both worlds. I think I’ll always relate NY with theatre and LA to TV/Film land. New York will always be home for me and I love the city more than anything, I’ll always have a special place for NY in my heart and I find myself traveling back to NY whenever I can to visit family and friends and just be with the energy the city brings! [I'm on the plane right now- headed back to LA from a short visit in NY!] LA is a new place for me and I’m slowly building a life there that I am enjoying very, very much. It’s a much chiller vibe and I love having a car to get places in LA. I don’t think I can compare them, I love them both!!!
Q: “I understand that dancing was hard on some of the cast, (thank whomever put the clips on Hulu for us) but how about the singing? Was it difficult to learn to sing as a choir?” – T. Alvin
A: I think that just like the dancing, we are definitely learning about our fellow Glee members and are learning how we sound as a unit and how we move. It’s always going to be difficult at first when you are melding and blending– but it’s been such an enjoyable experience with all the talent that I think we enjoy the challenge- resulting in a very rewarding feeling when we work together.
Q: “Does she [Tina] get a solo? What other kinds of music does she get to sing?” – 1critic
A: I think that the pilot is a lot of introduction and you will see each character get their time to shine. Tina does get to sing quite a few things, you’ll have to watch and see :) All the Glee members perform every genre, from Kanye West, to Traditional Musical Theatre.
Q: “I loved the a cappella aspects of “Don’t Stop Believing”! (like the da da da da’s) My a cappella group has been singing it non-stop! Will any of the songs in future episodes also have these a cappella aspects to them or will they be like the performance of “Rehab”, which is more show choir-y? BTW, I also loved the a cappella scene transitions and background music! =D” – Emily
A: Thanks !! We had such a good time shooting Don’t Stop… it’s been really rewarding and I love to hear the response has been so positive and catchy! Future episodes will hold a variety of things- definitely HIT songs that have been on the charts from artists like Queen to Nelly. Some will be like ‘Rehab’ and some will be a little more like ‘Don’t Stop’ with some really cool backup vocal arrangements, maybe even some really cool complications. I think if you enjoyed “Don’t Stop Believin” you will be very excited for what’s in store!
Q: “Jenna, Since the pilot didn’t reveal much about Tina’s background or personality, what can we expect in the next few episodes?” – Mary
A: Again, the pilot was a lot of introduction to the formation of the Glee Club and Will’s ambition to get us to work together as a unit.
Tina, along with the other Gleeks will have a number of songs/scenes to introduce more of their personalities and background. I think you will be very excited to see what’s to come. Glee club goes through a lot. In terms of Tina, you begin to understand why she is so “dark and gothic” along with why Glee club makes her so happy. Tina isn’t as gloom and doom as you may think, she’s really happy deep down and there’s a lot of layers you will see unfold. As each script is given to us we understand more and more about our own characters’ personalities and the other members of the Glee club.
Q: “I really love your show and am anxiously awaiting the new fall season. I have yet to hear anyone say anything bad about the show. It’s a big hit. How do you feel about super-stardom? Are you ready for it?” – Jeremy
A: I think the cast and myself included, feel that we are so involved in the process, we can only trust that Glee is something really special by the hard work that is put in. Everything has been really, really positive and we can’t be anything but grateful and appreciative for all the support Glee has gotten already. We’ve all been so supportive of each other and we’re having so much fun- that everything is a step-by-step process and we aren’t really thinking about the future but just enjoying every minute of this journey! But I do think everyone is ready for it to be seen by the world, we are very proud of GLEE.
Q: Are there any spoilers that you can tease us with about the upcoming episodes this fall?
A: I can’t really give anything specific away, you’ll just have to watch ;) But I can say that the Glee club, Will and all its members go through ALOT. You’ll be seeing some amazing guest stars like Kristen Chenoweth, singing her heart out. Also, a lot more of Sue Sylvester, Jane Lynch’s character- she’s HILARIOUS! Even some new Glee members might be in the mix! There’s a lot of group performances, including Somebody to Love by Queen, plus more by artists like Salt n’ Pepper and Beyonce. Maybe some more slushy action- [as you saw Rachel Berry [Lea Michele] get a slushy in her face during the pilot], plus- a lot of drama, surprise, new relationships, heartbreak and laughs.
Always,
Jenna Ushkowitz
