Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Ellie Kendrick, Maisie Williams&Tom Wlaschiha tease their characters in S6 

season 6 that turned up online yesterday. They feature Isaac Hempstead Wright and Ellie Kendrick in the first video, and Maisie Williams and Tom Wlaschiha in the second. The interviews include the actors sharing their thoughts on where their characters are currently with some intriguing teases for the season to come.

In the first, Kendrick and Hempstead Wright discuss returning to the set after taking a year off. Isaac talks about Bran’s developing powers being trained “like Luke Skywalker,” while Ellie talks more about the “tricky situation” Meera finds herself in, in season 6.

Williams and Wlaschiha avoid confirming any plot specifics, but Maisie notes that, “This season Arya get really broken. She goes through a really really difficult process and she’s totally stripped back.” She adds that, “This time it’s a lot more physical,” as well.

“We’ve never seen her come this close to giving up,” Williams says.

Wlaschiha is cagey about Jaqen H’ghar’s intentions. When questioned, he says he’s “Not sure I’m a fatherly figure,” and suggests, “Maybe Jaqen has a secret agenda of his own. He might pursue his own goals.”

I totally agree. I have to admit I’ve been quite singular-minded during this off season in regards to JS, so everyone else coming out and doing press is reenergizing my interest for the rest of it, because I really do love all the storylines.

With all we’ve learned over the past week or so, Looks like Bran is leaving the cave after all. I had been convinced that he’d stay there too.

Why would they? At any rate, one of the videos detailing the prosthetics and things used seemed to show one in the background: and if we could recognise it as such, then the answer is “little if any.”

They look at least very similar. You can glimpse one in the Prosthetics featurette.

Even tho even other storys line are all only there to serve the plot of Jon Snow/Stark/Targaryen as he is the direct result of the song of fire of ice, which was sung by his parents.

heh, so, to make it work, you only have to change two basic things!

The horseman could be absolutely anyone, including someone never even given a name. We can only guess as to who it might be, which makes it pointless to speculate.

Moreover, the horseman does not appear to be throwing a magical fireball: it looks like he/she has some adapted morningstar-like device with something flammable inside. He/she whacks the victim with it, and fire ensues. (Presumably oil or something is in it to cause the individual to catch on fire: just hitting a person with a torch only burns them or their heavy clothing.)

I’ve never thought of that. My thoughts are that it might be Benjen Stark, but Bran could be a possibility, but why is he cloaked? If it might be Bran. We shall find out.

Jon is my favorite character, book and tv, by miles and miles but I wouldn’t go as far as saying that other characters/storylines are only there to serve his arc or his story. All characters are there to contribute to the downfall of their world/society as they had known it, all contributing to bring about a great confrontation (humans vs Others) in which, presumably many feel, Jon will play a major role. But regardless of their importance to the final battle, it would be wrong to diminish the contributions of all characters, from Arya to Twyin to Theon, to the story as a whole. The saga, like life, is about inter-connectivity, the actions of one person are bound to affect every one else. Rhaegar believed in the coming of the Others and in the need to bring about TPTWP, this belief may have led to Robert’s rebellion and to the subsequent exile of Daenerys which brought the return of actual dragons to the world. Rhaegar, unknowingly, changed everyone’s life in Westeros and even in Essos, even though his intentions, we think, were to bring about the savior or saviors of prophecy. Likewise every other character since, including Jon, has been contributing to creating the circumstances necessary for the rise of the Others and subsequently fighting a final battle against them.

Indeed: Jon is just as much there for Daeny as Daeny is for Jon: the two of them have strongly paralleling character arcs.

(I do find it amusing that posters vary from considering tertiary characters like Barristan just as important as Jon or Daeny to those asserting that this really is a single-protagonist story!)

Bran should be out: that rider is using his legs. They might make that mistake. However, unlike this is something that the general audience does know: someone with no control over his legs would basically fall off of a horse if swinging something. (He also would have almost no leverage on the swings!)

I recently finished playing an episode in telltale and a sudden realization hit me… We could assume that Bran is definitely leaving the cave. But where to? after that episode about the north grove thing in telltale, it suddenly came to me that Bran might actually go even further north. I think I remembered something about some news (I just can’t remember if it was for the show or for the books, Im still trying to find the link) that we would see even further in the north this season (or in the books, I just can’t remember when did I saw that news, damn it). I don’t know, maybe this might be a new quest given to him by the 3 eyed raven maybe to learn more about the others or destroy/confront something there… Im just assuming here so I just wanna drop it here and see what you guys think…

Thanks! Pod and Theon will spend time together in Season 6, I think, given their actors were interviewed together.

Also, I get this idea that Sansa-Littlefinger is a nice parallel to Jaqen-Arya. Both Stark daughters initially think these older men are helping them, are “father-figures” to them. At some point, one or both will finally realize that both LF and Jaqen were just using them for their own goals.

I think that little snippet with the hooded figure is somewhere north of the wall…that severely limits the number of “people” it could be…and…remember the little snippet of Meera wearing a coat, out of the cave and kinda crouching behind a rock (from the camera operators behind the scenes I think?) In the snippet with the hooded figure, on the right corner in the back…isn’t that the same rock, with maybe Meera hiding behind it? LOL. If that is indeed Meera, maybe, then that hooded figure is either You Know Who (show version, designed to save the heavy CGI to Dragons and Direwolves) or maybe the long-lost Benjen?

Ya know, everyone talks about how Jon is the core of this story, that it can’t move forward if he is dead or changes drastically. Isn’t that exactly what this story is about? He’s too stereotypical, he fits too many fantasy tropes, that’s exactly why Martin is going to pull the rug out from under us. I don’t think any of us truly know what’s going to happen, and I can’t wait to find out.

We actually do know. It’s not speculation, it’s evidence. This myth about Martin being a great trope-subverter has gone too far. Sure, he does break some tropes, but his story has many that aren’t broken, characters who are cliche, and quite a few of them have a very thick plot armour, so the whole ‘anyone can die anytime’ theme is also a myth. The man has even incorporated revival into the story. Also it’s GOT we’re discussing, not ASOIAF. Actually in canon, it’s even more transparent you-know-who’s not done yet.

The murder of a leader by his own men might certainly get the tongues wagging. Sailors get bored and are happy to trade the latest news and gossip & Arya could easily overhear some of that gossip, brought to Braavos by tradesmen, etc, who overheard it from others who have sailed in and around Northern ports. They don’t even need to have visited the Wall, just heard the news from someone after, say, the NW sends letters out announcing the new Lord Commander. It would be excellent motivation for Arya to return to Westeros. The bond between her and Jon is something special and the show made sure to emphasize it. I’m expecting it to lead to something, either an action on Jon’s part or one on Arya’s.

As for Mormont, well, we weren’t exactly in Braavos if and when the news arrived, were we?

Well, I think we’re getting one thing or the other, but I think a “Show version” of You Know What is more likely?

Quite the opposite is true. What makes SoI&F so different from most “epic” fantasy is that it is heavily character-driven, with the story arcs completely tied to the evolution of a few principle individuals. Lead characters can come and go in most fantasy stories because, really, they are not important: if there is any story at all, then it’s plot-driven. (And, of course, most of the time there is not any story, anyway.) GRRM even goes further: the strong parallelisms among particular lead characters really hammers home the stories.

It would be much more of a fantasy cliche if, for example, Jon is reborn as Azor Ahai (completely undermining 4 stories of character development), or if there is some other Deus ex Machina device of the sort that abound in fantasy novels. But having Jon die and just get replaced by another cog in the world-building engine also would fit in with the norms of fantasy literature, where “what” rather than “who” is important.

Indeed, that also is true. Moreover, I sometimes think that GRRMs fans think that he is going to break the tropes of modern character-stories rather than the tropes of fantasy tales. Many of the ways in which GRRM defies the tropes of epic fantasy is to adhere to the norms of the rest of literature.

This would explain the battle we’re getting hints about on the show. It always seemed improbable to me that Jon or anyone would get together a bunch of wildlings and go after Winterfell. That would be absolutely suicidal, as the odds are the Northern lords would unite with the Boltons against the wildlings, and the wildlings themselves are not terribly effective against organized cavalry–Stannis cuts through 100,000 thousand of them like butter.

However, if the Boltons take the battle to the Wall, FORCING a battle…that would make far more sense. In that case, Jon or whoever would put together what force they could, and attempt to defend Castle Black, or waylay the Boltons on route, or whatever. I can see the Boltons uniting the North this way, as the wildlings are established in the north now, well past the Wall. They’d be seen as a threat.

I would add that I have always wondered (well, OK: I’ve wondered for 5 years now) if the Pink Letter is the pebble that starts the avalanche where the Wall is concerned. The Watch cannot meet the demands of the letter: and even if the acquiesced as best as they could, then they still cannot hand over the two biggest prizes as those two are not at the Wall.

So, if the letter makes good on the threat, then who mans the Walls against the White Walkers?

Still, the sight of the giant kicking in the gate of what seemed to be Castle Black now has me doubting that will come to pass. Of course, we might be mistaken and it is some other gate instead: for obvious reasons, many of them will look a bit alike.

I know! But I really believe her, she was one of the translator for this interview, she personally complimented Carice, and the editor from HBO Aisa asked “Mel seems to be the only one cares about the whole picture” because of her opinion during the talk as a book reader.

BUT, we heard directly from Roose in S5 that a smart commander doesn’t abandon a well held position such as Winterfell. That’s when we get Ramsey & his BFF Ser Twenty Goodmen. Why would Roose just decide, fuck it, we’ll march to Castle Black.

Novels imply that Roose knows he’s isolated and hated, thanks to the Red Wedding, hence the wedding to fake Arya.

Boltons need a cause, and the wildlings are it. North fears the wildlings, and Stannis and Jon allowed thousands of them past the Wall. Wildlings are the one issue on which the Northern lords can put aside their differences, unite, and attack.

So the Boltons lead the attack. From their point of view, this is a win-win: They have a cause no Northerner can disagree with. They’ll get allies, they’ll get to lead. Their odds of winning are excellent; the wildlings are not effective against an organized army. Outcome: They keep some of their allies. They’re seen as leaders who defended the North. They won. Not enough to undo the Red Wedding, but it’s something.

Of course, they know nothing about Littlefinger and the Vale.

But I agree with you entirely. Look at it this way: if modern conspiracy theorists lived in Westeros, then they would rush to find assert that the Wildling invasion was a hoax contrived by the Boltons in order to unify the Northerners. This is one of those “almost too good to be true” situations for the Boltons.

Maria, The outcome will be different. Roose is gonna threaten Ramsay to not make him

rue the day he raped his mother which will make Ramsay “run away” with a portion of the armies to attack the wildlings & Jon after sending a letter demanding his playthings back.

Wun Wun will hulk smash enough of them for Ramsay to retreat back to Winterfell. With significant losses to the northern armies, Jon may think it’s time to strike to protect Sansa wherever she is with reborn vengeance.
