They should definitely be informed, along with the reason why it was deleted. Half the time when a pick or something's been deleted that same person just tries to add it again- because they don't know why it's gone. They should be informed that people reported it and why.

not no what for but:no, how do you think this should be handled?
think aboot how many users fanpop has and how much time the f4 would have to spend writing people emails:
dear XYZ,
im sorry i deleted your quiz..but you see.."HOW HAWT IS JACOB OMG LOLZ LYK SO HAWT DONT U THINK" with the options
a)OMG i agree ttly
b)YEAH OMG SO HAWT
c)NO I DUNT THINK SO SO I SUCK
isnt actually a valid quiz question. If you post this as a pick it would have a better chance of surviving but really the way it was phrased still is very biased...etc etc
and then you have to do that for ALL the stuff thats posted?

the repeats, the spam, the factually incorrect ones...Im pretty sure if the F4 started doing that this site would collapse cause no one would have time to keep the site running smoothly cause theyd be busy writing emails all day.
so while i understand the need this isnt an option thats realistic. possily though they might develop some automated feature in future so that at least you know its been deleted?

I've received automatic messages for content that's been flagged as broken. I don't see why they can't set up a similar system for content that's been reported for other things. And the user doesn't need a detailed explanation of why it was deleted, just tell them how people reported it. For example; as miscategorized, inappropriate etc.

Hey, hey, germany123 , I think you didn't get what I mean. I didn't thought about some "love letters" from Fanpop employees. I thought about some automatic messages like when somebody comments your pick, question, etc. Something like " Dear user xyz, your question "dgjjfkdhgkjh" was reported as poorly worded and has been deleted" That's all. And I think it would be nice to know which one of your content is gone. I still think that automatic messages should be send to users about deleting their content. Thank you.

I don't add anything but I think it would be fair to at least inform people about this. When somebody has only 5 quiz questions it's easy to check which one was deleted, but when somebody has 600 or more it's hard to know what was deleted.

i did already say in my comment they might do something automated- but then its like:
user:oh my question is gone, must have been deleted.
then you get the automated message "your content has been deleted!"
do you see how i think thats sorta pointless? spamming the inbox with stuff you already knew? cause its not like content just disappears!
unless they gave you the REASON which they cant so..if its gone its been deleted- why do you need a message to tell you that?

I frequently encounter users who do think that their content just disappeared and are honestly confused. So it does serve a purpose. Plus, if the user is informed of the reason it was reported then they have a better chance of not repeating the same mistake. Many of these users, having noticed their content is missing, simply repost it, thinking it was some glitch that made their content disappear.

i feel my comments are being misread...if they COULD post a reason yes i agree it would be a great tool..but how i ask is that achievable?
if something is removed because it was flagged as a "bad question" thats hardly useful information. if its miscategorized its still in your activity section..i do agree that it would be better if people knew but im not sure how that could be achieved.
i, for one, usually leave a comment before reporting. and i think thats fanpop etiquette- but thats like a whole different subject :P

What we're saying is that we do think an automated system could be set up that would send an email when someone's content is reported and what it was reported for. I really don't think it's out of the realm of possibility, as you seem to think. And I disagree that telling someone it was reported as a "bad question" isn't useful information. It will make them think more carefully about questions they post in the future.

As for leaving a comment when you report something. That's nice and I've done that before too- but half the time it seems the content gets deleted before they even have a chance to read my comment. And most people don't leave comments when they report.

I think our basic disagreement just comes down to our differing opinions on how viable an automated system is. And how useful the information would be to users. Which is pretty subjective. :)

the way i understand the system works now id that something gets reported, looked at and deleted when the f4 find the time..
im not arguing that it would be a good idea im just trying to come up with a solution!? it seems to pointless to me to inform someone of something they cant change anyway (and with a little common sense figure oot themselves)

possibly it would work for reported content to somehow be marked as pending!? there could be a sort of "pre-report phase" that lasts say...5 days before it moves to a "fully reported" status.though that would pose a problem with ACTUAL spam. maybe just for quizzes- cause that seems to be the biggest deal.
this way there could be an automated message when the first report occurs "your content has been reported for XYZ" and then e.g. quiz questions could have a red frame around it or something ( to warn other users that something is possibly wrong with the quiz). Images could have a little flag?
this would show other users they are welcome to provide information via comments- and the f4 would only see the report after the "pending" phase is over.this might slow down the process and give users the chance to edit their content within the possibilities? and prepare them for possible removal? AND give them time to read what other users had to say?

it might lead to some "dead" reports (the content has already been fixed) but with the limited editing powers we have as users i doubt it would be an issue.

im not sure i thought that through 100%...but maybe its an idea? anyone have better ones?

I know what you mean, germany, but what I meant was to let users know which of their content was deleted. I made over 1000 quiz questions. If some of them are deleted I wish I could know at least which one it was.

I don't think that's how the reporting system works, germany. Things get deleted way too fast for the F4 to personally have looked at each and every one. I think it's an automated system. When something is reported a certain number of times, it's automatically deleted.

Although your idea of 'pending deletion' notices might be nice. That would give people a chance to look over their content and see what they're doing wrong. Perhaps when it's reported more than once they're sent an automated message? When something's flagged as broken twice you get a message that gives you the opportunity to delete or fix the content yourself.

It would only be fair if they did because if a person is NOT informed wouldn't they still think the content is still there? and who knows what would happen if they just happen to look for it and it wasn't there...

If the message also explains why it was reported and deleted, it could teach people not to make the same error over and over. The one problem I see there is in the case of pop quiz questions - "bad question" is too vague. It can apply to a question which needs a time frame, a question which is really an opinion, a question which is just so poorly written people can't understand it, a question where 2 of the answer options are valid....
