I don't really see the point of it. If I'm interested in a link, the title will be enough to tell me that (if it's well-titled, anyway), and that little summary of the first few paragraphs doesn't alter my mind.

It's meant to be a summary of the start of the link's contents, to help people decide whether or not they want to read it. But like I said before, the title and description should do that. And it doesn't always seem to work, but I'm not sure why.
