I have noticed recently that ratings on very great material are extremly low. I can understand videos that are of poor quality but links like IMDb or fansites are being rated as low. These are what I have been calling "petty rates". If you have a problem with someone on Fanpop don't take it out on their ratings. Add your own content that you think is better.

When you write a soapbox or find a great image, it can be really disappointing to get a low rating. Personally, it makes me not want to add content. Why spend so much time adding great content when people are going to rate is so low and leave you rude comments? I noticed a lot of the younger generation on here saying nasty things first. I've ignorned them and removed them from my fanlist b/c I feel they are young and sometimes don't know better. It's still not an excuse. But latley, I've noticed people my age and older saying negative things and rating extremly low. An example is someone came into an actress spot I recently made and rated her IMDb as garbage. They did leave an excuse however being they have never heard of her. After they rated everything low they moved on not joining the spot. Now that is ridiculous, immature and petty. If you don't know the actress or spot don't go in there and rate everthing low and leave nasty comments. Move along there are other spots out there. Or here's an idea!! DING DING! LIGHTBULB SHOULD GO OFF BY NOW! Make A SPOT! Yes, that's right make a spot about something you like and are interested in.

Ok, now that I am done ranting and raving about links I hope I haven't offended anyone. It's really important to rate. There are a lot of nice people out there who always rate and leave nice comments. I want to Thank You. They know who they are and they know their awesome!

*****Ratings are important people! Rate on how great the content is not the contributor. ********

Thanks,

Meg

Amazondebs had the marvelous idea of making Fanpop mad-libs...see the link. This article was last edited on 21 October 2008 to try to explain how the game works a little better...

What is a Mad-lib?
Specifically, Mad Libs is a registered trademark of the Penguin Group (USA). Generally, a mad lib is a kind of word game where the player is presented with a questionnaire, prompting for several seemingly random types of words. The player fills in the words, then goes to another location to plug the words into the corresponding places in a block of text, which results in a silly, funny, naughty or...

How much is too much? When it comes to Fanpop, it's hard to tell. So check out this handy guide! Feel free to add on any you think of too.

You know you spend too much time on Fanpop when......

1. Your hands are permanently bent into the shape of your computer mouse.

2. You see something cool that you'd like to share and try to take a screencap of it from your eyes.

3. You spend more time with your online friends than your real friends.

4. You start thinking up potential usernames for everyone you meet.

5. Who cares about celebrities? The days of wanting to meet your favorite movie star are over!...

Livejournal can be quite confusing for people who don't use it, so here's a short guide including the most important things you have to think of when crediting icons from livejournal.

Why do I even have to credit?
You won't go to jail if you don't, but...
1.)People spend quite some time making icons and crediting them is a sign of respect
Think about how you would feel if you made some icons and suddenly you'd find them on some other site without your name mentioned anywhere.
2.)So you repost some pretty icons from livejournal, another fanpopper sees them and wants to see more icons from the person...

Now, I love props as much (or more) than the next person and when I go to my page and see that someone has given me a prop I am in a happy little bubble for the rest of the day. I think this is a wonderful feature so that people can be recognized for their outstanding work. However, there is a etiquette that goes along with giving props. Props are something you should give if you feel that a person has contributed something funny, substantial, unique, outstanding, or just plain awesome in your eyes. They are essentially a reward for hard work that you have done. They are like a virtual high...
