Fanpop Article: The update idea

For quite a while I've been commenting on other people's picks and waiting for a reply, and refreshing the page, and refreshing the page, and refreshing the page, only to find that they haven't replied for 2 days and finally figure that they have probably gone on holiday or actually have a life.

So I have thought up an idea to keep us aware of any comments on our comments.... whatever; anyway I have thought up of a "keep me updated" button; this means that comments appear in our update box as if we owned the content.

I like to post my ideas in an article rather than a suggestions email because I like to see what my fellow fans think. If it's getting annoying I'll email you guys like everyone else does.

knifewrench I thought of a "reply" button but it could have got a bit confusing so I decided to suggest my other idea, the update idea

TweenaCat I've thought something like that would be good before, but at the same time it ruins your fun a bit--rather than going round all the forums you've contributed to, wondering why no one's commented on your message and typing another one just in case your comment is invisible to everyone else or something (you are inclined to be a bit irrational at this point) you just know immediatly that no one's commented. Kind of like the updates list. It ruins the surprise.

dave We're actually going to turn on e-mail alerts soon so people will know that you comment on something they'll get an e-mail. We haven't turned it on yet because we don't want to spam everyone and make them angry. Have to get it just right!

AmyFitz I like that idea, although it's fun to keep searching fanpop and then find someone's replied to your comment ^^ No, I like the email alerts idea on the whole :) xxx

benji I don't want loads of e-mails, I'm already on Fanpop ¬_¬ But I do wish we could get alerts in our updates box for stuff we've rated, voted on or commenting on, it's annoying if someone's replied to an old post you made a couple months back in someone elses created thread, knowing you can't reply because you don't know it's there.

alinazeer i'm also agree with benji i like the way we get the alerts in our update box and dont want to get them in my emails

knifewrench Do you think it's worth making a pick: "should we get fanpop update alerts through email?" ?

harold While I like the idea of e-mail notification - I've even asked for it before - I'm sympathetic to benji. I'm reasonably sure that, once it's implemented, there will be an opt-out option, something like "click here to turn OFF e-mail notification". It's kinda web-standard.

harold I'm curious whether the changes to my updates have been all that you hoped they would be, knifewrench...?

How long have you been on Fanpop?
I joined FP in 2011 under a different account. Shit happens, I end up not being allowed to go online anymore by my parents. Flash to a few years later. I figure "What's the harm in making an account again? It's not like I'll be on it much." since yeah I have no idea what my old password was. Damn was I wrong.

Which club are you most active on?
