Have you noticed that people on this site add lots and lots of things and gain load's of fans then out of nowhere are never adding again or only add now and then. Look through your fan list and see who is still adding and praise them for there loyalty and praise even more or even prop them for their work, they all deserve it.

By the way this is my first soapbox

tubby2002 It was a good first soapbox. Yea I noticed that too. I think I will go through my friends list and give props to those who are still adding lots of stuff, it will give me something to do.

kathiria82 It is polite not to name people but I know a few people who have stopped contributing. I feel like some people just want to gain the highest medal so at first they add a lot and once they gain it they stop adding. That's okay because Fanpop is too addicting for me to stop adding stuff on here.

cressida Do you mean users who stop adding content altogether or just to one certain spot? Because there are those spots that I'm forever adding to, and then there are those spots that have little to no content so I add a bit just to share the love.

Temptasia Good point. I know I love getting recognized. It is so important to let people know when you like something they hae done!

kathiria82 How about when some people make a spot and then abandon it. What's the point of creating the spot if you're never going to add to it!?!

Ratings: We Can Do So Much Better

Ratings. They sound good in theory. What better way to know how good content is? Unfortunately, the reality is far, far different:

Trolls - We've all seen them. They rate things a one, just because they can.

Non-Raters - There is a LOT of awesome content on Fanpop that goes unrated.

Friends and Enemies - Friends get high ratings. Enemies get low ratings. It happens.

Rating Unfairly - People dish out 1-star ratings to images and videos containing characters/pairings they don't support.

Rating the Uploading Process - Content gets rated based on HOW it was uploaded instead of the quality of the actual...

This section of my guide for Fanpop users details the ratings system and was last edited on 26 May 2008.

As with any web site, Fanpop is only as good as its content. Some content - what I think of as the soul of the site - is generated by users in the fora and in comments on the rest of the content and cannot be rated. But the rest of the content - the body of the site - has a ratings system. The whole principle of the ratings system is a democratic one: if enough people vote, the really qualified items rise to the top.
