A feeling of achievement, no matter how small, is still great.
A feeling of achievement, no matter how small, is still great.
Wow! About one day ago, I got my first props! I was ecstatic! Temptasia gave me props for the Office videos I was contributing. And, then I realized something: recognition is what we really base our actions off of.

I first joined Fanpop because I wanted to watch some cool videos, and because I was bored. I didn't really plan on doing much on it, just join a few key spots (my favorite TV shows). As I delved further and further into what this website had to offer, I began wanting to be a part of it. I began seeing names everywhere (Chel, Temptasia, Benji) and I realized I wanted to be recognized.

I wanted to contribute things to Fanpop that would make people think and/or laugh, because those are my two favorite things to do. So, I started adding picks, I commented on all that I could, and adding people to my fan list. I looked on YouTube for videos, hoping other Fanpoppers would enjoy them as much as I do. I began working harder on getting the name ThinkPink20 out there for many people to see, to be recognized.

I felt the importance of being part of something that is bigger than me. But I wanted to stand out. I wanted to be appreciated for something, anything, so I felt like I belonged. It is important to feel appreciated by your peers and your elders; it gives you a sense of quality. Like you matter to the world and aren't just a waste of oxygen. And, that's how it is on the internet, you want to feel, not that you're just a waste of some gigabytes or whatever, but that what you did matters to someone other than you.

I wrote my first soapbox article from what I felt, not what people want to hear. It was about how JD and Elliot (the "Ross and Rachel" of Scrubs) shouldn't end up together in the end of the show. It was probably the first thing I did for myself to do, for ME to be proud of, to get MY opion heard. I didn't care if people liked it. Some didn't. Some accused me of being negative. Others agreed with me, but chose to keep on hoping. When snoznoodle gave me props (my second props) for telling it like it is, I was floored.

So, my realizations while on Fanpop:
Do what you love, not what others will love, because chances are, there is someone out there who is thinking exactly like you are.

Recognition is what drives us to do things we don't normally do, and that's a good thing.

In order to recieve, you have to give. So, if you want props or anything, don't expect it to come to you. You need to work hard and contribute to society if you want to get anything out of it.

So, thank you to Temptasia and snoznoodle for your recognition and appreciation. It is what is driving me to contribute further to this vast entanglement of people, to something bigger than just me.

A fan,
ThinkPink20

No more nudity and disgusting images!!
No more nudity and disgusting images!!
Please don't post nude or indecent pictures in any spot. There are children on this website. Please don't post anything you wouldn't want your own kids to look at. If an actress is being made fun in a picture please don't post that in their spot. And you should know better than to post naked pictures of them also. There is a place for those images and it's called PerezHilton.com. It's disrecpectful to post inhumane pictures of an actress/actor in their spot. This is fanpop not hatepop. Another issue that has been irking me is duplicate images. I know I have accidently posted duplicates before...

I feel like it is time that I tell you how much you all mean to me and how Fanpop has changed my life. About a year ago I became a stay-at-home mom. Which was really a blessing, however a huge stressor in my life was the fact that I had essentially no adult interaction during the day and no way of really feeling validated. I found Fanpop one day while browsing for Office episodes online. I saw the picks and it looked so fun, that I just had to join! Since then I have spent hours everyday on Fanpop. It is my outlet for all the stresses of being a young mother who is nearly solely responsible...

This is merely an addition to Papa's fantastic soapbox article on link (a must-read) but some users have still been asking about editing a pick that they've made after they have published it. Here's a very basic how-to.

1. How the Pick's Creator can edit the pick:
If you want to add additonal choices to your options or images to them, all you need to do is look for and click on the pencil icon on the top of your pick. This will take you back to the pick creation page where you can freely add new options and image to your heart's desire.

2. How Voters can edit the pick:
If the creator allowed...

Don't remain a Fanpop-provided face in the crowd. Upload your own profile image!
Just a few helpful guidelines for new & old users that will help keep Fanpop fantastic:

1. Upload a profile image. Find an image of you or of something that represents you and upload it as your user icon. This should be especially easy now that there are perfectly-sized icons (100x100) in almost every spot there for you to use. Otherwise you are just another green face in the crowd!

2. Rate videos and links. It's quick & easy, those who add videos and links will appreciate your honest opinions/ratings, and it is yet another way for you to leave your mark on Fanpop!

3. Proofread picks....

O how much joy do we all get when we find out we have a prop or are a dedicated fan. It shows how are hard work of adding and loving our time on the site is paying off.

I woke this morn and loged on like every morning just to find out i am now a die-hard fan of Heroes YAY was the first thing to go through my head the joy O the joy. But my joy ended as fast as it came when another user left me an abusive comment i won't give names *cough* calippo87 *cough*, but they called me a 'gay lord' on for a pick i made this was just uneeded. :(

But then when i looked at all my props and looked at all the...

For quite a while I've been commenting on other people's picks and waiting for a reply, and refreshing the page, and refreshing the page, and refreshing the page, only to find that they haven't replied for 2 days and finally figure that they have probably gone on holiday or actually have a life.

So I have thought up an idea to keep us aware of any comments on our comments.... whatever; anyway I have thought up of a "keep me updated" button; this means that comments appear in our update box as if we owned the content.

I like to post my ideas in an article rather than a suggestions email because I like to see what my fellow fans think. If it's getting annoying I'll email you guys like everyone else does.

Ok, this is my first time to write a soapbox. Please be gentle with me and don't make it hurt too much. *giggle*

So I've been a member of Fanpop for a little while now, and I've seen how the community has evolved and grown. I first came to Fanpop for two reasons: link and link.

Towards the end of Season 1 of Heroes, my interest in Fanpop started waning. Call it TV burnout. But a funny thing happened: Dave sent me a message about a new feature that was going to debut: Picks! I dabbbled in it a little by adding the pick: link It was fun, but I didn't think I'd be creative enough to add any good...

Heyy Fanpoppers! I decided to make this soapbox for people who need motto ideas! Enjoy!

Love-

1. And the People who touch your heart, are always with you

2. Me & Him! [I wish]

3. Deep inside the corner of my mind, Im attached to you...

5. Cant you feel my heart beat slow, I cant let you go... I want to in my life...

Um, ok so maybe these features aren't THAT secret...
There are a lot of features on Fanpop. Some are well known and others are less well known (there are also a ton of others we *want* to do, but that's for another conversation). Today I thought I would highlight a few of the less-well-known features for you.

Why? Because, dammit, we spent time on these features! Sure picks and images might be sexier, but these are the runts of the proverbial Fanpop-litter and they need some time in the spotlight too.

(side note: if you already know about these, then consider yourself a very knowledgeable Fanpopper. But if you don't...well, here's hoping you...

Hip-hip-hooray! Wow- I had just hit 20 fans and I am so excited. I have been "fanpoping" since last June and frankly at first I joined fanpop just to get to watch some videos of my favorite shows. In the beginning I don't think I even paid attention to whatever was going on with the web-site- videos were the only thing that mattered. I suppose some people do join just for that. But the more time I spend on this web-site the more cool things, that others like Youtube lack, I have found. I definitely loved the format of the profiles- the spots arrangement, the updates, the how many things you...

Ok, now I know that there are other articles out there about keeping Fanpop clean in terms of language and being appropriate but it is obviously not enough seeing as people continue to ignore it.

I am not by any means trying to be rude or bossy. I am not your mother. My goal in writing this is hopefully a common one among Fanpop users, to make Fanpop a joyful place for all users.

Topic 1: Language
I myself am very guilty of inappropriate language on Fanpop. I have said some things where if I think twice was not a good idea. I understand that some people say things out of habit and can do it without...
