Amongst the contestants in the GMG, there are two people stronger than Jura. 1 Jellal, and second is Laxus (before u start arguing, i'll come back to why). The othere that could do something, Erza as well as Mirajane would give him the fight of his life and probably lose (I mean individually not together). Kagura seems to be very strong while we don;t know much about her, i don;t like assuming without seeing what someone is capable of but by powerscaling with erza, she might also fight well against jura but lose, same goes for minerva, Natsu couldn't win even if he was teamed up with Gajeel(but come to think of it, i'm basing that with regards to laxus, and we know that laxus has dragon slayer skin and toughness, i doubt jura would be able to stand that much dragon slayer magic, so individually they lose badly but together they've got an okay chance). Thats about all the people that could so something with regards to contestants. Now for the one on one battles, Jellal wins. Proof: Jellal and Jura were once part of the wizard saints and Jura admitted to being the weakest of the 10 saints so by default he loses to Jellal, plus in their battle he seemed to be faring much better before Ultear's inteference.

Second is Laxus, people on here seem to be seriously underestimating laxus. That guy is pretty much the strongest contestant in the GMG (to be honest he could probably solo every team participating in the tournament not together but in 5s, including fairy tail A and B). Proof: the main argument people bring up is that Jellal and Jura are wizard saints and laxus isn't so they are stronger, but this is very untrue, i will give two reasons why 1. Even in fairy tail people don;t know laxus's true strength, just that he is a monster, the people who know, the Rajinshuu, Natsu, Gajeel, Levy and Master. They all know he is stronger than a monster. Erza doesn't know, which is why she doesn't admit laxus is stronger than her like she does Gildarts, the proof that she doesn;t know was when he was fighting hades, she said was Laxus always this strong (she was shocked). Anyways this brings me to my point, when jellal was amongst the 10 saints we can agree that he knew all of them and the level of their powers, the evidence of this is that Jura knows the level of powers enough to know that he is the weakest saint, if we agree that jellal knows the level of wizard saint power than we can agree with him when he said erza was of wizard saint level during the tower of heaven arc (he said he needed to sacrifice a wizard of the 10 saints level). If at that point erza was already wizard saint level and this was before the time skip as erza is now stronger than then, since laxus is stronger than her we can also assume him to be of wizard saint level. My second evidence is more concrete 2. Master Jose was one of the wizard saints, and like i said before since jura was the weakest, means that by default master jose was stronger, we know that master jose was one-shotted by Fairy Law, and we also know that Laxus can produce a perfect fairy law, this means he would also have defeated master jose a stronger wizard saint than jura. This proves that laxus defeats Jura. Laxus is such a monster that his roar happens to be different than other dragon slayers, apart from the fact that he requires no prep, every dragon slayer's roar obliterates, natsu's does so by burning, Gajeel's does so by tearing into you, while laxus's does so by frying you it also stuns you leaving you unable to move and suspectible to further attacks from laxus.

A thought that has been occuring to me recently is that Laxus has surpassed makarov to become the second strongest wizard from fairy tail behind Gildarts, my evidence is that first of all laxus fared much better against hades than makarov, i believe if hades didn;t have his regeneration through that heart then laxus would have beaten him, cos he clearly overwhelmed him with speed, plus didn't even use any of his dragon slayer magic or his RAGING BOLT. Anyways by faring better than makarov it was evident that at that point he had either surpassed or was equal to makarov strength, or even if u are optimistic and say he was a little behind, the 3 months of training they all had is sure to have taken him above makarov, just look at gajeel's improvement after the 3 months and we can agree that master can't really improve anymore, if laxus shows something similar then God help Jura. But if they did fight the writer is gonna make it a bit closer even giving Jura the upper hand because of his wizard saint status and all the hype on him. Laxus tanked dragon slayer magic from Gajeel and Natsu together that was enough to destroy half if not more of magnolia and showed no scratch, he was able to overpower natsu in terms of strength without using his lighning at the beginnig of the fight and we know how powerful natsu's punches coated with fire are. Plus he tanked gigantic dark magic from hades without any magic power to protect him and still survived, and was shown later on with only a bandage on his head, while makarov wo guarded with magic and everything was bandaged all over. He soloed Raven tail capable of easily canceling high level magic like they did with lucy's urano metrologous, and also capable of creating illusions to fool even erza that his immune to them, to fool makarov, jura, wizard council (though they aren't any powerful), ex council member yajima and many more strong people, but laxus still soloed them, during the battle of fairy tail, he withstood so much dragon slayer magic from natsu and gajeel, performed so many high level techniques and even used some like Thunder palace, and fairy law that require so much amount of magic, and was still performing high level techniques like the halbred, and even after he was beaten (which was because of plot and he really never intended to harm the guild deep down in his heart), he had so little injuries compared to the winners Gajeel and Natsu who were virtually mummified with bandages. I hope i have given u enough reasons

Very thorough and long answer 0.o but a good one nonetheless. I really agree with all you said, except for Jellal being stronger than Jura. I believe they are on par, mainly because despite saying that he is the weakest of the wizard saints, Jura is also known to be very modest. Especially about his own power. However i wouldnt go as far as to say that Jura is stronger. Also remember that even after Jellal started to use Meteor in their fight Jura could still fight on par with Jellal. Both of their big finishing moves were not used (Jellals Sema and Jura's Rumbling Mt.Fuji) so we have no idea about the outcome. A serious fight between those two will prove to be just as the rumours say about Saint Wizards clashing. Catastrophic.
