i love this movie too, but the stage show has been and always will be the best for me. :)
@ titanic fan-the phantom isnt really supposed to be 'hot'. in the original book he is described as looking like a walking corpse, and in the stage show the disfigurement is much worse. people arent supposed to like the phantom for being 'hot', but like him for his music and other qualities. (but not apearance) just saying.

sry.... i saw some more of the play and it's amazing! the reason i picked the movie the 1st time is cuz i had awful seats when i saw the play but now i saw some footage and other stuff and the play is lifechanging! everybody cried, they laughed, they smiled, they sang! the overture waz like my fav part! everythinh is dark and people are bidding and BOOM!!! the lights go out and the chandilier lights up! and the most beautiful, dramatic music starts 2 play! evrything was amazing. the movie is still one of my fav's but nothing can compare 2 the play. and eriks- angel, ur right after i saw the play later the phantom is supposed 2 be VERY ugly and scary. A flaw in the movie was that the phantom didn't look that bad, in the play it's scary. that makes it more touching, cuz she saw past it. The overture in the movie... i didn't like the sound in the movie. the play version is a bit more powerful and not so dull. go 2 youtube and tipe in POTO overture and scroll down and click on the one with all the ochrestra. u will be amazed!
ps- sry this is so long:(

it's perfectly alright if your post is a little on the long side :-) yes, i definetly agree that the show has so much more of an impact, and is so much more moving than the movie. have you seen the Erik's red death costume from the show?? it's amazing! and it was really funny, cause my mom walked in while i was watching a clip of red death at the masquerade, and she was like "woah, what is that? it's so creepy looking!" me- "yeah...that's kinda the point." :-P

vrette picked Susan Kay's Phantom:
Love the movies & the tv series. But Susan Kay captured Erik's essence for me. "Flower & bird, two species never meant to mate. Yet at length the rose overcame her fear and from that single, forbidden union was born the red rose that Allah never intended the world to know."--Phantom Simply the most romantic and tragic piece of literature I have ever read. Don't miss out if you haven't read it.

PandaKISS picked Gaston Leroux:
I have never cared for that movie, maybe if Crawford had been in it then that would have been a different story. I chose the Leroux novel cuz that is my favorite (book wise) I like the Kay novel as well but I like the humor Leroux has esp. between Doraga and Erik, my fav quote " You booby" lamest insult ever but equally funny.

TBUGoth picked Gaston Leroux:
Erik's character is explored//expanded in the MOVIES and stage show and phan fiction, but i every one of those has become part of Gaston Leroux:'s Erik. Is this appropriate? I have NO idea. Gaston Leroux's intentions for their relationship are kept in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical though. :)

I'm not familiar with the Susan Kay version. I've never read Gaston Leroux's classic novel. I'm not interested in either, though.

The 2004 movie is garbage. Screw Gerard Butler. Screw Emmy Rossum. Screw Joel Schumacher.
