Dumbledore's Army Question

For hardcore HP fans out there: I have a mission for you :)

Okay, lately my friend told me that "Harry Potter fans are basically a cult." ... I had no idea what a cult was. So i looked it up and found that it was"a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc." And when I admitted to him that I didnt know what it meant until I looked it up, he insulted hp fans because he was pretty sure that the series even mentioned the word cult at least once. So I made a deal with him, and now if he finds the word cult in the series (he's gonna re-read all the books) then i'll have to do something that he'll make up for me (like a dare almost) so now im nervous wondering if the word really IS in the series, so can anyone help me search for it? i'd really apreciate it! if anyone finds it tell me what book and what page :D thanks! have fun on ur mission!!! :)

i dont remember that word being in there. but i just started rerereading the series and im still on book one again so i'll see if its in there.

I checked the 7 books I have in PDF format. Nowhere the word "cult" is to be found. So relax. It appears in "difficult", "difficulty", "difficulties", "cultivated", "agriculture".
You mentioned you didn't know what the word meant. Does your friend know what it means actually ? You honestly checked the meaning of the word - and apparently your friend was not happy with that. I strongly suspect he does not know the meaning either.
If your friend keeps telling you stupid things, just let it go. The best way to defuse such an accusation is just let it go. One day, your friend will get tired of all this. Not worth the trouble !

"One that I know nothing about, Uxbridge. That is agriculture." - Approximate quote of the Duke of Wellington from the Waterloo movie. Sorry, couldn't resist. xD

From my memory, "cult" is never mentioned. But, I have not got an eidetic memory, so "cult" could have been easily used to describe the Death Eaters and Voldemort. This is unlikely, though.

i don't think it did, but i don't remember. if it did mention the wird, it was probably in refrence to the death eaters.

some do some dont. if you think hp fans are bad go tell a twilight fan twilight sucks. if you say something bad about something some one likes of course they'll go off on you.

If the 'not nice hp fan' that you speak of is that rude, I think they were probably a nasty person to start off with, nothing to do with Harry Potter.

The word cult is not mentioned in the books. But in all truthfulness the Deatheaters are kind of considered a cult though.

There is no such word in the HP series. Believe me when I say this. I have read each book about 50 times, which I am not really that proud of, because even i know I am a tad too obsessed...

The only thing in the series that even approaches resembling a cult is the organization of the Death Eaters, and if they're a cult, so what? Cults are considered bad, and the Death Eaters are just about as bad a group as I can think of. I wouldn't worry, though. I've read every one of these books at least seven times, and I don't remember the word "cult" in any one of them.

There are more obsessive fans out there than HP fans, although our level of fandom is high. To give your friend some credit, I did once hear about a Harry Potter cult somewhere, but it was a small group of people, and I don't even remember where I heard it. To generalise all HP fans as members of a cult, however, is completely untrue.
