Not sure, actually. I definitely think it's the darkest Disney film of its era (despite it having light-hearted moments too), but there are quite a few other Disney films made about 50 years before it that are very heavy-going. So I'm not sure if it's Disney's all-time darkest film, but it is probably up there!

I'm seriously tired of everyone accusing it for being so DARK and DEPRESSING. Honestly, hearing some people talking about it makes you think they're referring to a thriller or something. Yes, it is dark for a kids' movie, but it's not that big of a deal. And movies like The Christmas Carol, The Black Cauldron and maybe even Pinocchio are as dark as HOND, if not more.
