She just rubs me the wrong way. As does the way the marketed the movie. Every Princess that came out when I was little was pro-female, so I don't see why they are bragging she is the first " Feminist " one.- That isn't some stupid damsel in distress. Ariel on was not that way. They all had a mind of their own. Cinderella even stood up for what she believed in. Besides all those movies were based on classic fairytales, so whats wrong with getting a Prince/Hero in the end. ?

I like Merida as a character. I like that she's gutsy and smart and accepts the blame for her mistakes. I do hate how she's marketed though, and how everyone treats the idea of her getting a prince like the end of the world. What's wrong with falling in love, I say. And I like how Brave was more of a mother/daughter movie than anything else, even if everyone's taking it the wrong way as well. Just because she didn't get a man doesn't make her better than the other princesses. That frame of thinking is actually counter-productive in my opinion.

I agree with Persephone713.

I hate how people act like she's the greatest thing since slice of bread just because she doesn't want a prince. What is wrong with falling in love and getting married? Her three suitors were just normal guys, if silly. And her father supports her not marrying the guys (it was her mother who was the problem, though) so I don't understands what she was bellyaching about.
It would have been different if her three suitors were douchebags (think Prince Charming from Shrek 2) that way, I would sympathesize with her.
