We all probably associate certain movies with relatives and/or friends. So here's an article with a list of movies that remind me of my family and my reasons why :)
Mom - Dumbo
Anytime I see Dumbo with his mom or hear the song Baby Mine I'm always reminded of my relationship with my mom. As someone with autism I was really different from the other kids, getting into trouble a lot, and I was a bit of an outcast. But at the end of the day my mom still loved me and tried to help me when she could. When I used to make music videos the first one I ever made was Baby Mine with mother/child clips from cartoon movies we used to watch together for her birthday and she loved
Dad - Anything with Phil Harris and Onward
When I was a kid I loved The Aristocats and The Jungle Book because Phil Harris (VA for Thomas O'Malley and Baloo) sounded exactly like my dad and Thomas and Baloo were a lot like him. Since my parents were divorced and I barely got to see him watching those movies felt like I was with him. For Onward, when Barley was talking about how he was too scared to say goodbye to his dad I almost cried in theaters. When my dad had cancer I never visited him, not even when I got the news that he didn't have much time left. It was a mix of me being in denial that he was going to die and me being too scared to see him in that condition. When I watch any of these movies I feel closer to my dad
Oldest sister - The Little Mermaid
My oldest sister is a huge TLM fan so it's one of our most-watched movies when I hang out with her. We sing along to the songs and make jokes every time we watch together and I give her anything Ariel related for Christmases and birthdays
Second oldest sister - Return to Oz
This movie. This freaking movie. If you like this movie then holy crap you're brave (or maybe just an 80s kid) 😂 My sister grew up with this movie and Wizard of Oz and since this is the only one of these movies that's actually Disney I'm gonna talk about this one. I watched this movie once with my sisters and it gave me nightmares for weeks and to this day I'm still too scared to watch it. But her? Loves it. And loves watching it whenever she can even with her children in the room. And this woman refused to let her first baby watch Bambi because it had guns 😂
Third oldest sister - Frozen and Frozen 2
One of the reasons I love Elsa so much is because she reminds me of my sister. I was closer to this sister when we were kids but then at some point we stopped. Things got bad with her for a while and it didn't feel like we were sisters anymore. But then a few years ago things finally got better and we started getting close again. For Halloween a couple years ago we actually dressed up as Elsa and Anna and then we saw Frozen 2 together in theaters. I'm not a big Frozen fan anymore but it holds a special place in my heart because of my sister
Husband - Tangled
Tangled isn't a movie we watch a lot together but I can't help but think of my husband when I watch this movie. I've mentioned in other articles that I relate to Rapunzel big time because of my upbringing and I feel like I'm kinda similar to her personality wise. Rapunzel left her tower and stayed with people who brought out the best in her and made her feel happy and loved. My family loved me but after I moved in with my husband I felt more free and relieved. It's why I love Rapunzel and Eugene so much; they remind me of me and my husband and how he helped me.
Well, that's it! Thank you for reading and leave some feedback!
