I still think no. Shang was about pride and nobility, but Mulan had proven herself to be a worthy soldier and worked hard, and did it for her father, which you saw he had a soft spot for. I think he only pretended he was going to to set an example. He wouldn't have killed any soldier unless they turned out to be a traitor, I think.

Oh, so when he let her live, it wasn't because she saved his life? Did he just use that as an excuse to keep her alive?

^I think so. Shang has proven himself to be all bark and no bite before in terms of threats.

I feel like that life for a life thing was more of an excuse not to kill her. He would have though of another one

It seemed merely like an excuse, rather than saying "Oh I won't kill you because I like you and you're good", he has far too much pride for that. I'm sure he would've said some other excuse if she didn't save him.

It was just an honourable excuse - I think the fact that she did it for her father was the real reason.

I hate to sound cruel but as a child, I really did think that he would have killed her if Mulan didn't save his life.

I don't think he would've killed any of his soldiers without trying to get out of it. And of course he may have been feeling slightly relieved that Mulan was a girl...

^ LOL I totally didn't even think of that.. I'm a natural blonde. That's my excuse. Dunno what everyone else's are..

Anyway, I agree with pretty much everyone else that Shang used the "life for a life" thing as an excuse to get out of killing Mulan.

Yea wouldn't Shang be dead because Mulan hadn't saved him? But even so I think he would have. I mean did you see his face?

I think he fell in love with Mulan when she was a guy, (but I don\t think he's gay, he\s relieved that she's a woman XD) So he wouldn't kill her. Plus she looked pretty innocent and I think he would've done the same thing for his father.
