This face honestly sums up how I felt when I read that article.
This face honestly sums up how I felt when I read that article.
I know that this is my second article in a week but there are some things that I just have to say.
A lot of you know that I'm a very big Frozen fan and seeing that there's going to be a sequel for it made me really happy, but also anxious.Because of that,I started fantasizing about what the sequel should be about.I fantasized about it being like The Hunchback of Notre Dame where they'll take a lot of chances and try to represent some mature subject matters.Or like the show called Avatar where they give us likable and relatable characters that we can gravitate to while watching them go on a journey that would ultimately change who they are at the end.
However, after reading an article,my hopes started to fall apart. In that article it's stated that they will show a more playful side of Elsa. And I was like "You have got to be kidding". If you don't know why,you should check out some of my older articles.
Because of that,I've decided to make this article to express what I want to see in the sequel for Frozen.
First of all, these are all opinion based and are what I want to see. However,I also think that my ideas for the sequel SHOULD be in it.
Second,I want to make a disclaimer that this article is going to be very personal for me and that you will see me ranting a lot, especially near the end.
Third,if any of you disagree with me,I have no problem.Like I said, just because you have different opinions then mine, doesn't mean that I won't respect your opinion or you as a person.
Alright,without any more stalling,let's begin:

1.Better Pacing.
One of my problems with the original Frozen is that, while I loved that movie, the pacing was awful,I mean really bad.It almost felt like that they thought the only way they could tell these stories with these characters is if they rushed through them.
For instance, when Elsa ran away from her kingdom when she saw that her powers were causing chaos and Anna went after her,the next scene they cut to is Elsa being on The North Mountain, even though for Anna,it took her one and a half day to get there. What did Sonic meet up with Elsa and decided to give her a ride?
It's also shown when Marshmallow chased Anna and the others away from Elsa's palace,it is shown that Anna's hair is turning white. And after that they cut to Elsa pacing back and fourth in her palace, while being stressed after what just happened. Now this could've been an emotional moment where we see her lose control of her emotions and trying to find a solution for it,but what do they do?After a mere seconds of Elsa, they emidiatelly cut to Anna and the others on their way to the trolls.I mean what the hell?
The pacing in the first movie was bad because it felt very rushed and inconsistent.Almost like an energetic child jumping back and fourth on a Pogo-stick really fast (sorry if that sounded stupid).
Because of that,if the creators are aware of the criticism that the first film had, then I'm sure that they will notice the bad pacing and try to fix it.So the sequel could take time to set up the story, its characters, the music and the morals.

2.More Songs.
One of the advantages that made Frozen great was its music and it shows. The songs do actually help the characters and tell the story.
However, there were a few problems.Like having five songs in the first half. But like I said,if they tell the story and help us understand the characters better, then I don't mind it.
And that's what I want to see,I want them to make songs just like the previous ones (and I don't mean by recycling old songs,I mean songs that further the story) but also be enjoyable, beautiful and most importantly, emotional.

3.Less Plot-holes.
Personally, the plot-holes don't really bother me that much, however, there are a few that do.But if there's anything that Disney is good at is having us go along with things that don't really make much sense. But I do know that doesn't excuse some of the other ones. For instance,I never got why the people in Arendelle would let a stranger from another kingdom take care of them? Because it was princess Anna's order's? Maybe, but even then in other kingdoms the subjects have the ability to think for themselves,so I still think that that was a stupid moment.
I also never got what happened to Kristoff's parents. On DeviantArt,I met someone who thought that Kristoff's parents died when he was young and he was raised by the other ice-harvesters until he was found by the trolls. It's actually a very good explanation as to why Kristoff couldn't remember about having parents and only about being with Sven. But if so,then how come that the other ice-harvesters didn't notice him and Sven getting lost? Were they caught up in the moment of Frozen Heart? So while Kristoff's parents dying when he was young would explain a lot,I still can't be sure until they confirm it.
One of the things that I also never understood is how come Elsa was just born with ice powers.
But it never really bothered me because I thought that it was one of those things that was left for you to figure out.Like what was in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction. So I didn't really give that much thought into it.
However, after scrolling down Elsa's Wikia page,I noticed something in her trivia section that said:
"According to Jennifer Lee,even though the reason for Elsa's magic is never explained except mentioned that she was simply born with it,it's been hinted that the source of her magic may have been caused by a 1000-year alignment between Saturn and other distant planets like Uranus,Neptune, dwarf planets like Pluto. And that she was born on the Winter Solstice."
While I think that this is an interesting way as to why she was born with them, doesn't that also mean that there are other people who were born on that day on the Winter Solstice when the planets aligned?
I had the idea that Elsa was posessed by the essence of a mighty ice creature that died.Which would be a good set up for a sequel where someone would want to extract her powers and use it for himself or herself.
They said in that article that they will explain the reason behind Elsa having her powers.
And also explain where the king and the queen were going before their ship shank.
Time will tell, but right now,we could only speculate.

4.Keeping the characters to their original personalities but also develop them.
A lot of you know that my favorite part of Frozen were the characters, more specifically,Elsa and Anna.
Now even though Elsa is my favorite Disney character,I won't talk about her right now because I'm saving her for later.
One of the things that I did like about Frozen Fever is that liked seeing Anna's caring side.Anna is far from being a generic klutzy princess. And one of those reasons is her caring. For instance,in the first movie, when Anna saw that Hans was about to strike Elsa down, instead of waiting for Kristoff to kiss her,she ran and sacrificed herself for Elsa because how much she loves her.But I do believe that Anna's act of true love wouldn't have worked if Elsa won't love her back.I'll touch upon this later.
And it was shown in the short that Anna even saved Elsa again.Which again shows her caring side.
One other thing that also makes Anna unique is her fear of being alone and abandoned.Which was shown that Anna hates being shut out,and in the scene where she says "Nobody wants to be alone!".
To tell you the truth,I want to.At least for now.
Okay,back on tracks.
What makes Kristoff unique is that he's not your typical Disney prince. He has a job and an ice business to take care of.He sleeps with an animal most of the time and is very unorganized. He doesn't care about his looks and about what people think of him. He's very grumpy but can show kindness to those who show kindness to him.And doesn't trust people.
While "Reindeer(s) are better than people" is one of my least favorite songs out of the movie,it shows that Kristoff doesn't trust people and that Sven is the only one who he can trust. The song might indicate that in the past people lied, cheated and made fun of him in the past, which I think makes sense for someone who's best friend is a reindeer an doesn't trust people.
What makes Olaf unique from other comic relief characters is how he was brought in as a comic relief. He's the representation of Elsa and Anna's childhood. The last moment of happiness that Elsa and Anna had with each other before the accident. The reason why Elsa build Olaf is because it served as her goodbye to her and her sister's relationship because she's planning to stay on that mountain until her life ends because she thinks she's a danger.Olaf means "Heir" or "Ancestor's descendant",Elsa was heir to her kingdom.
I think this is a brilliant way to bring your comic relief in.
I only have one problem with it,but I'll talk about it when I talk about Elsa.
Hans, well, you might remember that in the past,I just despised Hans for what he did.But after a I bumped into someone who defended Hans and explained why Hans did that. And I realized now.
Hans, throughout all his life, was abused and made fun of by his twelve older brothers. And even though I don't have any abusive siblings,I can understand how hard it is to live with a family who constantly abuses you,an the fact that he had twelve of them was a nightmare for him.And the fact that he can't be heir to the throne but an abusive punk I'm sure made him furious.Which I think makes sense as to why he did what he did.
But just because he had a very tragic past, doesn't excuse his heinous actions.
I did forgive him after finding out about this, but I'm still neutral about him.
Let's just hope that the sequel won't be a Helsa film.
I personally want the staff to do justice to the characters, especially if so many people, myself included, care a lot about them.Especially about Elsa.

5.Emotional moments that are powerful.
While Frozen had many emotional scenes, even scenes that I cried at like the end of "Do you want to build a Snowman?",I honestly want them to do scenes that are filled with emotion while you care about the characters and the situation.
For instance, there's a show currently running that actually has a lot in common with Frozen. Both of them have likable and relatable characters that we care about and can treat serious subject matters like depression, loneliness, sexuality and anxiety with a lot of respect while having musical moments in it and is very empowering for women. That show is Steven Universe. It's my second favorite show currently running on Cartoon Network and for good reason,Steven Universe is just like how I described.
It's actually a very emotional show that either brings a tear or a smile on you with very heavy moments.
My favorite Frozen fan-fiction is the one called Frozen Wight,in which they continue the story of the first movie but also portrayed that continuation in a very realistic and emotional way that actually belongs in a story like Avatar The Last Airbender.
I don't ask much,I just want to see more emotional moments in it that either make you smile, cry or laugh.

6.A Good Villain.
While I personally think that Hans was a decent villain,he wasn't the type of villain that I would like to watch over again like Frollo or a funny villain like Yzma.
Take Kung-Fu Panda 1 and 2 for instance. While both of them are wonderful films,my only problem with the first one is that the villain was a little weak.He wasn't awful, but seeing how much he's been built up,we either could've had someone more intimidating like Frollo or funny like Yzma. With the sequel however, the villain was the exact opposite, this was a great villain.
And that's what I want to see in the sequel. But seeing that Frozen tries to make most of its characters as human as possible. So if they're going to make a good villain,I want it to be a complex, sympathetic villain.A Shakespeare villain if you will.Kind of like Ramses in The Prince of Egypt.
Even though I want to route for the heroes, the villain in my opinion is just as important.

7.Make a continuing story.
One of the things that a good sequel should do is to understand what the first movie was about.I don't mean by rehashing it,I mean by understanding what the first film was about and try to do something different with it while continuing the story.
That is one of the key elements to how to make a good sequel.Which is one of the problems that movies like The Hangover 2 didn't understand.
If they want to make a good sequel, they better know this stuff.

8.Giving Elsa a more important role./Showing more of Elsa's maturity and her actual personality.
I put these two together because I can't talk about one of them without taking in consideration the other one.
Now,before we start,I just want to make a disclaimer that I'm going to rant a lot at this part because of how much Elsa means to me.If you don't want to see me ranting more than I have ever been on Fanpop,I suggest that you leave, now. But if you want to stay, prepare yourselves.
A lot of you know that Elsa is my favorite Disney character because she is the one I related the most out of all of the Disney characters out there. However, after I read that article,I was so angry that I just had to let it out.
In that article,it is stated that they're planning on showing us Elsa's playful side.My reaction was "ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME!".
Sorry for that rant, but let me explain.I've always known Elsa to be a mature person. That she's organized,intelligent,strict,strong,well-behaved,down-to-earth,level-headed,sophisticated,perfectionist,elegant and dignified. While I liked Frozen Fever, one problem that really bothered me,that Elsa didn't feel like the mature yet playful and caring person I've known her to be.I have no problem that they showed more of Elsa's playfulness, but it was clear in the first movie that she's not as out going as Anna, that even though she loves having fun with her,she chooses to focus on more serious things because of her maturity at her young are.
For instance, when her parents said that she must stay away from Anna, she didn't lash out, because she completely understood the situation and what was at stake. While most children at her age would've lashed out at them,Elsa's parents knew that they could trust her.
Or when she took the role of being the queen of her kingdom.Elsa would've easily just given the role to Anna, but Elsa understood that Anna wasn't ready. And when her magic was discovered, she could've easily gone bad and tell everyone to bow down before her.But she didn't,she instead ran away to protect everyone from her magic instead. Not the best option, but the intention is still there.
Or when she refused to bless the marriage between Anna and Hans because she knew that it was absurd and that Hans was still a stranger to her so she wanted to protect Anna.
Or when she was able to hold her own against the Weseltonian Guards.
Or when she saw Hans, she knew that she can't stay with Anna anymore, but at least she will be happy with Hans. That's why she said to Hans to take care of her.
Or,one of her strongest traits, that she's selfless to the point that she doesn't allow herself any kind of generosity, always putting the well being of others above hers because she knows how much a human life means.
Granted her selflessness and perfectionist nature was shown in the short, but everything else that I had listed off about her maturity, little to nothing.
I always viewed Elsa to be very similar to Marry Poppins.Being strict and strong but also very loving and warm yet knows how to have fun.
Plus,I also thought that she was similar to other characters, like Double D from Ed,Edd n' Eddy or Pearl from Steven Universe.
I honestly felt to me that Elsa acted a bit more like a Rapunzel rip-off than the mature, kind, artistic, selfless, caring, intelligent, yet knows how to have fun kind of personality.
I like the fact that Elsa is playful too,but that's not what I think defines Elsa's character. What I think what defines Elsa's character is her huge love she has for her sister, her incredible selflessness and her motherly kindness and caring nature.Like,I viewed her to have a motherly personality.Someone that people can look up too.Not a Rapunzel rip-off.
If I ever encounter Jennifer Lee or Chris Buck, and I do mean mean IF,then I would tell them a piece of my mind:
"Me:I heard that you are planning on showing Elsa's playfulness which I'm thoroughly against.I love seeing Elsa having fun,but in the short it seemed like you missed what I think made Elsa unique from the others is her maturity and sense or responsibility. If you're only showing her playfulness then that means that you're just trying to flanderize her character.
Lee/Buck:What? No! We're just trying to...
Me:Flanderize a once wonderful and complex character to a Rapunzel rip-off so you could pander to children and and rake in even more money because you have no idea how to represent a character like Elsa.
One of my bigger problems with the first movie that Elsa had even LESS screen-time than Kristoff and that you talked about her like she's not that important.Almost like she was nothing but filler, which really, really ticked me off.Well if that's the case then why even make her a sympathetic character. You made her character feel like she's nothing but a waist of animation.
Lee/Buck:She just an animated f*cking character!
Me:YOU'RE AN ANIMATED F*CKING CHARACTER!
It honestly feels like that you have no idea how to represent a complex character like Elsa so you're just planning on showing only her playfulness because you don't know any better.
In the short she said to Kristoff "Are you sure you got this?" instead of "Now this means a lot to me so I need you to take this seriously."Yes,more of that please, more of that.
Don't believe me,I've seen fan-made videos that represented her character better than you.
For instance,I watched a video in where Elsa is fascinated by all that she build in her palace until she starts to miss Anna,so she goes outside and builds Olaf because he represents the relationship she had with her sister while singing a reprise of "Do you want to build a Snowman?". That scene honestly made me cry.You would've done the same, but instead it was a waisted potential.
I mean what do you secretly hate her or something? It's like making a Terminator movie but Arnold Schwarzenneger is barely in it.
Or near the end of the climax.I believe that the act of true love wasn't Anna's alone. You see,I don't think that Anna's act of true love would've worked if Elsa doesn't love her back, because true love is not one-sided.So when she sees what happened to Anna, she breaks down and hugs her tightly, while regretting everything that she did and finally embracing that love that she was afraid of for so long.So when Anna thaws,it wasn't her doing alone because I believe that the act of true love wouldn't have worked if Elsa doesn't love her back.
You want to simplify her, make her easy,so easy that nobody will ever find her interesting or fun anymore.
I will honestly take one of the most complex and sympathetic characters that Disney has ever created over the Rapunzel rip-off you're trying to make. Not because she's more memorable, but because she's worth remembering."
I'm sorry if my anger got out of hand, but I honestly had to let this one out.Elsa is my favorite Disney character and turning someone this sympathetic into a Rapunzel rip-off just so they can pander to children is just so despicable, absolutely despicable.
I don't care what excuses they're coming up with, the Elsa they're trying to show is anything but the Elsa I know.
I honestly and I really mean honestly wish that they would see this article and get it through their thick skulls to understand that what they're planning to do is just wrong.
Children are no idiots, they know better than what they're planning to offer them.

I'm very sorry for my ranting, but I had to let it out.I just can't forgive them if they will make her into something that souley exists just to shut up children.
My ideas for the sequel in my opinion should appear in it.Like I said, children are no idiots, they know better than the pandering bullsh*t they're planning to do.
I bet that I can represent the characters better than they can a million times.
Again,I'm very sorry for my behavior, but I just couldn't let this slide.Something needed to be done if they want a good, emotional and engaging movie.
I even made a Twitter account just so I can tell Jenifer Lee herself that what she's doing is just pandering.
I just hope that they will see my article and see that this is how the sequel for Frozen should be made.
Thanks you listening.
As always,Smell ya' later!
If they truly flanderize Elsa's character like I fear they would, then Elsa will truly be dead to me.
If they truly flanderize Elsa's character like I fear they would, then Elsa will truly be dead to me.
How did she go from a tragic, complex, sympathetic character to a Rapunzel rip-off?

13. Mulan

Silverrose1991- She is a wonderfully written character - complex, developed and relatable. I love her selflessness, her intelligence and her loyalty to her father.

dclairmont- I love her devotion to her father and the awkward, quirky side of her that we see. I kind of loose interest in her in the second half though.

sweetie-94- I love how clumsy she is in the beginning of the movie, but as the movie progresses she...

I like Rapunzel mainly because of her character development. I admire characters who develop in the movie and Rapunzel was one of those characters. She went from being an insecure girl to a strong, mature woman. I also like her art skills and...

Ever since my mother decided to buy my first movie when I was the measly age of 3, and which so happened to The Little Mermaid in VHS, I was forever doomed.

And when I say forever doomed, I mean forever doomed in the best of ways... If that makes any sense?

After that, I basically became a Disney addict. Disnerd to be exact. I loved pretty much every Disney film that I came to encounter. Sure, the early 2000's Disney movies were kinda off for me, and to be honest not all that memorable (Except Lilo and Stitch, God how I love that movie.) but my immense love for the past Disney films never died...

Dear Frozen,

Thank you. Thank you for being pretty much the only realistic portrayal of love in mainstream media in the last- oh, I don’t know- at least five years.

Thank you for showing that Hans, the handsome gallant prince of the Southern Isles who seemed a perfect match for Anna is fallible. Thank you for showing that the idea of a “one perfect match” isn’t necessarily realistic. Thank you for showing us that love is like with Kristoff, how everyone has their rough edges, how no one can fit the mold of perfection. Thank you for reminding us that “everyone’s a bit of a fixer-upper,...

*Sigh*I lost all my progress from THEDisneyFreak, so I'm just going to re-post this article
Here is the problem with most people on Merida: she's selfish and wanted to change her mom. I can agree with that yes, but she changed and genuinely apologized in the end. Now I'm not going to bring up Ariel, they are very different but comparing them makes me look desperate. You're free to disagree, we all have opinions.
Though yes. I'm aware an article like this has just been written but the author is fine with it, I've been writing this for the past two days.

I used to hate the idea of Brave and Merida...
