Disney Princess Question

Why do you dislike the Pocahontas sequel, besides Pocahontas ending up with Rolfe instead of Smith? (assuming that you do, that is)

I keep on thinking about it and I'm not sure why else I dislike the movie besides Pocahontas ending up with Rolfe. But one big thing about it is that Pocahontas and Smith had such a strong bond that it seems odd that they would just replace Smith. I mean, it's not like some high school romance (despite people saying that it's basically lust and all that) because Pocahontas risked everything for Smith, went up against her culture (yes, I realize teenage girls do similar things), was willing to die to save him, and even said that no matter what happens she'd always be with him. I really hate that because it's like everything they've been through together means nothing and it seems really out of character for Pocahontas. It's also out of character with John Smith because the movie makes it look like he knows nothing about Pocahontas and doesn't understand her. She doesn't even cry or run to hug or kiss him when she finds out he's alive. This is a HUGE problem with the movie! However, is that the only reason to dislike the movie? I mean, the animation is nice looking, the songs are good, the new character are decent, and the plot is an interesting idea. I suppose one other complaint I have with it is that Ratcliffe is able to influence the king so much, when in the original he said he wasn't a popular man and therefore wouldn't be able to influence someone like the king. Can anyone say what they dislike about the movie besides Pocahontas ending up with Rolfe?

They changed Pocahontas personality. How she is acting in the sequel is against with what she was representing in the original movie. John Smith is also like completely different character. He was a good man in the first movie, now he acts like jerk. Also, what happened to the characters like Thomas from the first movie? Why they have never told the King about everything what happened in the original movie?

I actually like the movie. Don't kill me for this, but I don't even mind that Pocahontas ended up with Rolfe, if only they hadn't changed so much John Smith's personality. The fact that he's a jerk (well, a bigger jerk than in the first movie) is the only real problem I have with the movie (oh and the fact that Pocahontas seems to forget she sacrificed her life and went against her father, the leader of the tribe only to save HIM, I mean, come on, show a little emotion, you thought you were in love with that guy! She is very cold towards him).

The animation sometimes looks great and some other times it is at least tolerable, the songs are actually great and I think that the sequel stays pretty faithful to the original when it comes to Pocahonta's personality. We even get to see more of her relationship with Nakoma, which is nice because I always loved these two together.

So yeah, it's one of the best Disney sequels in my opinion. I don't love it like I love Peter Pan 2 or Cinderella 3, but I appreciate the effort they made.

By the way, I remember now that I wrote an article here about Pocahontas 2 a while ago, so if anyone's interested...

Oh call me stupid but I just realized that you asked us why we hate Pocahontas 2, if we do. I'm sorry I didn't read it carefully and I thought you wanted just out general opinion on the movie. :/

I like Pocahontas 2 and I don't understand why so many people dislike this film. After all you can't change history. And I'm happy to hear that there are others like me who like this movie. I think that Pocahontas started acting so coldly to Smith because she understood that he's not her true love. I think she was a bit embarrased by this fact. And by the way, I think that John Smith was rude in both movies (So I don't think that his personality have been changed)

Well definitely the love triangle, especially Rolfe. Many of the characters, in particularly their character development have gradually went downhill! I absolutely ignore this movie for many years already.

Rolfe is a rip-off of John. He shares most of the same traits along with the same role. Lets go through the traits that John and Rolfe have.

John: Determined,Brave,Adventurous,Resourceful, Kind,Witty,Loving,Selfless,Head Strong, Willful,Caring and Rebellious

Rolfe:Brave,Selfless,Witty,Caring,Kind,Resourceful,Proper, Kind,Polite,Head Strong,Willful, Loving and Courageous

See, what I mean by rip-off there's very few traits they don't share. I think that's a good enough reason to hate Rolfe's character.

I like Pocahontas' character in this movie and her relationship with the new John is kinda sweet/realistic.

It's everything else in the film that bothers me tbh. The bad animation, the AWFUL songs (like, Pocahontas's solo is the only good song of the bunch; the villain song is too foppish and campy and the town song is just a Belle rip-off), the goofy secondary characters, and the lack of Pocahontas' tribe are just things that just make it bad for me.

I liked that she ended up with Rolfe, because that's history. John Smith was like a brother to her, as she was 14 and he was in his 30's. Poca actually had a son with Rolfe. His name was Thomas.

Becase it also seems that Ratcliff got away with every threat in the first movie to the settlers to hang them all when he was arrested.

I didn't like that Pocahontas didn't end up with John Smith, like you mentioned. I do like this movie a lot and like the drama and songs. I agree with what others have said about John Smith changing his personality.

He stops listening and tries to get Pocahontas to go places with him when he was willing to stay, and possibly die, to be with her in the first movie.

While I’ve never been a fan of the John/Pocahontas relationship, I’ve always thought it was strange that after seeing them together in the first movie a few years later we’re all supposed to accept that Pocahontas would just drop Smith for Rolfe? I like Rolfe way more and all but this was seriously dumb.

Warning: this contains violent language. don't watch if you don't wanna hear it. thank you.

I also hate Pocahontas 2. I hate John Rolfe so fucking much i could shove a gun up his ass and pull the trigger. John Smith is an awesome man. He was a great adventurer and did the best to save his friends and got a gunshot to save pocahontas' father. they changed him into a douche to make rolfe look better. but didn't work. mm.✋ John Smith was way better looking than rolfe. rolfe looks like elmo and he look like momo and chucky cheese. They changed Pocahontas from a person trying to find her way into a pathetic bitch.she was a weakling. And don't get me started on Rolfe and his fat ass oh wait. HE AIN'T GOT NO ASS! He tried to change Pocahontas into a white woman because he didn't like her for who she was. smith loved her for who she was. For all you John Rolfe fans you can watch this in the description below and then change your mind. and i don't care about history. they should've made it accurate in the 1st place. and not now. so rolfe go to hell. i don't care if you can't fall in love with your first. KIDS DO NOT NEED TO LEARN THAT! 94 % people ship john smith anyway and 6% ship rolfe. I ship John Smith x Pocahontas 100% I will reply to comments.
