I don't know how the show can go any other way other than a DE ending.
They truly bring out the best in one another & push each other forward rather baby each other (SE).

What they have is real. Its built on friendship, understanding and trust.
Elena knew all of Damon. Damon knew all of Elena. There's no secret sides between them (cough SE cough).

It's all good. Everyone knows Damon loves only Elena. DE are not together now and Elena has to work out her issues with Stefan so Damon is "free" to hook up with anyone he wants to. As long as we see a jealous Elena, I am zen. DE angst that is moving them in the right direction is great. The faster we get Elena to face and acknowledge her feelings for Damon the better. Okay, i just saw the picks of 3:14. and i gotta say, the stelena picks don't look that hot to me! if anything, elena looks like she's taken by surprize.. and stefan looks really possesive and creepy!! and the second one looks like she's trying to break away from him, and has been caught out by damon, and that's why damon looks so pissed off. and, the in the delena picks, they may not seem to close, but she looks totally at ease with him!!! and that's really all that matters!!!

You know why I hate what Stefan did in 3x11? It was't that he fed Elena his blood or even tried to kill her. I mean Damon has did pretty messed up things too. But it was that what he did was so calculated and planned out. He could have tried to make her think he was going to kill her by anything else, but what he does is speed around the bridge where her parents died and she almost died!
