Here's my theory on what's going to happen in the season finale. I think Damon is going to offer Elena the cure, she'll refuse because she wants to be with Damon. But because he loves her so much he's willing to turn human for so she can have life she wanted. There is another cure available in the prison world Lily was trapped in.
