You know Stefan, Elena, Katherine, and Damon all have something in common.
Elena knows she loves Damon but won't admit it. Stefan knows he loves Katherine but won't admit that either.
In 2x11 deleted scene, Katherine said that love is waiting. Waiting for that person to give up, and not stopping, even if it mean waiting forever. This is just like Damon.

While I appreciate his attempt at being the protective big brother that Elena so, so desperately needs, someone needs to send him the Season 1 and 2 DVD box sets. I feel a lot of people will be mad after the episode but there were still good things for DE! One, even after what happened with Bill and despite the arguing, Elena was still trying to reason with Damon and believe in him. Two, she kind of sort of admitted she has feelings for him to Caroline! Three, I saw how a lot of people here were saying they were hoping Damon leaves town so there can be chances Elena will miss him, and that happened.
