Criminal Minds Question

What is Reid scared of? (S2, ep11 so it's an old episode)

In S2, the episode 'Sex, Birth, Death', Reid has sympathies with a teenager who is afraid of killing someone. And then he and Morgan have this conversation about why the boy trusts Reid. Morgan says 'cause he saw Reid's work, but Reid says to Morgan in the car that it is because he "knows what it is to be afraid of your own mind". But what does he mean with that?

I think it's because his mother's a schizophrenic and that is often genetic. So I presume that Reid is terrified that he himself will become a schizophrenia sufferer as he grows older.

I thought that was a quote that Reid said to Garcia? Or was that another reference to his link with schizo???
There is another "fear" that Reid has - the DARK! And Garcia harasses him about it!
