Beaming with happiness as she attended Monday Night Raw’s 800th episode shot live in Tampa, Fla., Aubrey pointed out her favorite wrestling stars to her mother, Cassandra. Some 1,300 miles from her home in Michigan on this exciting evening, Aubrey’s illness was the last thing on her mind. The trip was a much needed diversion for a family wrought with frequent hospital stays and doctor visits.
Like CM Punk, little Aubrey is not one to back down from a challenge, and her main challenge in life has been battling a neuroblastoma, or cancerous cell growth that occurs during normal development of the adrenal glands, located along her spinal column. She endured a surgery to remove a large portion of the mass, which had been the size of a grown man’s fist and had caused intense pain due to pressure it had exerted against Aubrey’s right kidney. Some of the tumor was too much of a risk to remove due to its close proximity to her spine, so Aubrey takes medication in an attempt to control its growth. She is seen by a radiologist often to determine if the remaining tumor has grown.
