Cinders picked No, it doesn't bother me; it's not like they're forcing anything upon us:
It's not the angry, "Adopt this or die" sort of religious message generally, it's a good, peaceful type of message. I love God Help the Outcasts. In fact, Hunchback is one of my favorite movies, and Frollo my favorite villain, because he's so complex, if you think about it. The pious sinner-- I love that archetype!

Of course Hunchback's religious references are Christian, but they're obscure enough to be universal. Esmerelda's song appeals to most religions, and Frollo is the classic example of a Christian hypocrite.

Most of the movies are based on classic stories and fairy tales, many of which are from Europe, which was dominated by Christians for much of its modern history. I feel less like it's just Disney pushing Christianity, and I see it much more like it's a traditional part of the story.

tessajanuara has a good point. And I adore the God Help the Outcasts song. It's beautiful, and one of my favorite songs from the original Disney movies.

actually, if you look back further in history, they are all songs passed down since before christianity started
they are based off ideal which are odd, as they all have similar stories across the world, its like we were born to have these archtypes in us
the modern cinderella is said to be based off a russian tale
aldin has very muddy backgrounds raging from india to egypt, with everywhere in between
beauty and the beast is a classic story of love prevailing over vainity
pinnochio has the old ideal of creating life embedded in it

and alice in wonderland, was well, made up by lewis carol

lore is odd isn't it?

I never had a problem with it... I was raised religious, and I've always had a fascination with magic. My mother, on the other hand, banned me from watching movies that dealt with magic of witchcraft for quite a while (years, actually) when she caught me reciting spells along with Mrs. Price from DISNEY'S Bedknobs & Broomsticks when I was little. *sigh*
Thank god there isn't a spot on Fanpop for the Christian values movies she replaced the banned magic ones with... ;)

I am an atheist, but it doesn't bother me. A lot of characters believe in God, why shouldn't they mention it? It's part of culture.

I don't know the song, but any movie that takes place in a church in France has a historical resposibility to mention God. And I'm an atheist.

Especially since Frollo was using his "Christian" background as justification for trying to commit genocide against the Gypsies.

It's IMPOSSIBLE to talk about 16th century Europe without talking about religion. And... I'm pretty Agnostic (as opposed to "sort of" agnostic? lol). Anyhoo, no.

I just ignore it :) But if its more a major point of the movie, like the ancestors in Mulan (My favorite Disney movie) its a litle harder to ignore, but I still don't care.

It never has bothered me. I like when they add a bit of magic and stuff to the story, it makes things a bit more..interesting. And as far as I'm concerned, God Help the Outcasts is one of the best songs out there. It's actually my favorite one.

My aunt, a strict Catholic, was offended by Dr. Faciler, the voodoo shadow man. I am also Catholic, but I don't mind. Disney is not forcing people to become involved in voodoo worship.
